My thermostat in my 2019 5.7 classic is sticking partially open.

Any recommendations on which brand is best. Been 20 years or so since I last replaced a thermostat.

Is it not reaching temp? Usually the OE thermostats are very reliable in the 5.7.

I put a 190 Stant in mine.
203 is the OEM temp, the 190 keeps the gauge just below the halfway mark even on the hottest days. Still plenty of heat in winter too.

How many miles on your truck? I’d get a new oem. Best reliability. Odd that yours is having issues. If you use a clean bucket to reclaim your fluid then you can reuse that too.

Mine gets no higher than 212 and then temp drops to about 203-206 and stays there.

I'm replacing mine with a Stant OE 180 (48798). I'm going with the lower temp since I tow a lot. I'm going with the Stant since I've trusted them for years and they are made here in America.

I just got a Motorad Ultrastat and will be replacing either today or tomorrow. I there a drain plug on the bottom of the radiator? Or do I need to remove the lower radiator hose to drain?

Drain c ock is on the driver side of the radiator at the bottom. A 10mm hex bit will fit inside it.

Sorry for not updating this thread sooner. I installed a new Motorad ultrastat 195 degree. It acts exactly like the one it replaced. Warming up from cold, it opens at 204%, then down to 197 and closes, then opens at about 210, and down to 197; then opens at about 215 and then down to 197; then it will open anywhere from 217-224 and then close at 197.

I don't want to use a 180% thermostat, does anyone make a 190% one for 5.7 hemi?

I’ve been running a stant 190° in mine for a couple years with no issues. Pm me and I’ll go look for the part number

If you find the Stant number, you could post it up Khris,i'm sort of on the look-out for a 190 myself, and i'd hazard a guess a few other guys might be too.

I was looking at stant 190 also. When I searched an ebay seller was near the top. On the reviews one guy said he bought a stand 190 from 3 different sellers and each of the 3 where actually 180.

The thermostat might not be causing your temperature fluctuations, these truck have an Active Grill Shutter system that help with aerodynamics. The AGS will open up based on temperature, try running the AC and see if the coolant temps stay a little more stable.

Here ya go, rock solid at 190.
190 Degree; Includes Seal
Stant XACTstat thermostats include all the features that make them just like the original equipment. They have the jiggle pins, check valves, integral seals, and integrated water outlet housings. Some have the ports for attaching coolant sensors.
Features and Benefits
These thermostats are an exact match to the original equipment thermostat that came with the vehicle when it rolled off the assembly line.
  • Includes all features of the original equipment thermostat
  • Jiggle pins and check valves for air venting, integral seals, and integrated water outlet housings are exactly like the original equipmen
