So, I have to pick up flooring for my house today. It's 2 hours away and weighs 2200 lbs. I have the Airlift 1000 bags in the back. Could I make it in 1 trip or should I split it up in 2 due to being over weight for my Crewcab 1500 with 5.7 and 3.92's. anyone hauled this much weight successfully or bad idea?

what is your actual payload? remember it is also your stopping ability that is affected and if you are in a crash or break an axle and cause a crash probably not worth trying to be overloaded. If your actual truck's payload is close then I would probably do one trip but I doubt a 1500 is going to be close. remember you need to add passenger weight (you and whoever else if anyone) into the total weight. Why not rent a trailer that way one trip no problem

Its interesting to see this question posted. I flip homes, and I just bought an entire pallet of laminate flooring. The easiest way to load it was to lift the whole pallet into my truck. I estimated just over 2000 lbs, plus I had my wife in the front seat and other gear and supplies in the back seat. My work truck is a 2004 Chevy Avalanche, with the 5.3L.

The Avalanche is more designed for comfort than hauling, so it has a softer suspension than the 1500 Silverados do. The forklift guy loaded it slowly, and the truck bed lowered several inches. I looked before driving off, and decided it was OK to proceed with caution. Other than the bed being significantly lower than the cab, the truck did pretty well. The part that was a bit challenging was quick stops or sharp turns. definitley doable, but care was need to not just casually whip it around.

After getting up on the Interstate, the truck was perfectly fine. I did drive 70 instead of the usual 75-80, just for the sake of caution. So, considering your airlift suspension and lower gearing, if my 2004 Avalanche handled it, I think your RAM is definitely able to make it in one trip. Just take your time and avoid quick start, stops, and turns. Your RAM is very capable to do this.

I would also like to suggest have the forklift push the pallet as far forward in the bed as possible. Having the load nearest the center of the truck just behind the cab will allow the front suspension to help somewhat, and make the truck a bit more level. It also helps the handleing to have the weight nearest to the center of vehicle as possible.

43 boxes of EVP flooring totaling 2200 lbs.
not talking about that, what does your truck say on the door jam for payload? your trucks payload is its gvwr minus its actual empty weight. what is the load rating on your tires? if you are over loaded and crash and injure or worse kill someone how will that affect your life?

I just looked up payload for a 5.7 4x4 sport cc and it is like 1300lbs. so an average RAM driver is probably 200lbs or so so if you are going solo you will be over 2X your recommended payload...rent a trailer.

I bet there's a local U-Haul close to @Georgiasport unless he has a buddy with a trailer he could borrow.

It says max payload 1229 lbs. Maybe 2 trips it is.
wise move as you and your passenger weights will be be subtracted from that as well. why not rent a trailer if you don't have one?

2 trips.... your wheel bearings will thank you.

The half ton axles don't have the bearing set up to haul that heavy for that long distance.... sure, you could do it, but you'd be killing your wheel bearings.

Yep....I have a 5x8 atv trailer with a 3500 pound axle under it.... works great for loads like this where a full size bed and more than 1400 pound capacity are needed.

Without that trailer, I don't think I could get by with a short bed half ton truck.

The only load I've hauled in the bed of my truck so far has been 1400 pounds of quickcrete, which was 27 pounds over what the door sticker says, but it was only an 8 mile trip.

Dear god Payload in the 1500 sucks. What's the payload if you had the RAM boxes, 800lbs ? :)
But makes me wonder how FCA arrived at this numbers ? We could easily exceed payload without even realizing.. think about it, 6 adults at 200 lbs each are 1200lbs, Then what, a simple toolbox full of tools and that's it you're outside of your payload numbers. We all see these vehicles with a lot more cargo that that on work trucks with the nose pointing to the sky.

I'd think you could take the truck to the weight scales and check what she weights empty, from there do your math and don't exceed 3900lbs in the back or front. I'd think GAVR front or rear will be more important than payload no ?

The payload numbers are out to lunch on these trucks. I know mine with the tonneau, spray in bedliner and extra soundproofing is overweight when me and 3 buddies go golfing. Thats just 4 guys and 4 sets of golf clubs. And by a few hundres lbs. We've gone on longer trips same group and gear in my buddies jetta diesel wagon without an issue.

Not really out to lunch...

When you look back at older models from the 70's (the trucks I grew up on), today's half ton trucks are rated higher than 3/4 ton trucks were back then... and not all that far behind the ton trucks.

And engines, wow.... a 78 Chevy 454 big block (truck engine) came with 230 hp and 360 torque, lol.

2300hp wow that is crazy lol....I had both a Ford with 460 and GMC with 454 and yea power was pathetic but yet they seemed powerful at the time. My first new truck was a 1978 F150 with 300CI and I thought that felt plenty powerful...lol. totally spoiled now.
