Hey folks, first time poster. I have a 99 ram 1500 2wd. Is it necessary to jack up the front end when replacing the pitman arm? The Haynes manual says to but thought I’d ask as I lent my jack out and won’t be getting it back for another few days. Thanks

Can you replace it without jacking up the vehicle? Sure, but its gonna be way harder than just lifting the vehicle. Take the drivers tire off and reaching it will be easier than reaching around. Its also easier to line up if the wheels are able to turn freely. I've never replaced one outside of work, so its always been on a lift. I don't see any reason why you cant, its how we used to replace them on the Semis, didn't jack them up for that. But Semis have drag links, so not sure if it is functionally different from replacing one on a centrelink style.

I did mine while it was still on the ground. It can be done but you would have less room to doing that hammer.
