I'm not a factory nav guy but I generally run a seperate gps unit on long trips even when I know the route. Its been a while since I've shopped them so can you guys recommend a good gps unit? I'd like something that bluetooth syncs to uconnect if thats a thing? I could run my phone but I drive to some out off the way places with no service and I've found the dedicated units to be better. I wouldnt be against a combo dashcam and gps as well.

Garmin is the best standalone GPS, IMO, hand's down. The good thing is there is several different models to choose from depending on what features you are looking for, and what your budget is.

I personally like Tomtom. Less expensive and I believe as good or better than Garmin, but you can't go wrong with either.

Can they connect via Uconnect bluetooth and display on the big screen or is that not a thing? Not a deal breaker but it would be nice. I also like a separate unit so it doesnt interrupt my music with directions.

You can mirror Android and Apple. I was less than impressed in my last 2018. I had android which left me with Google maps or waze. Not sure which was worse. Maybe I did not know how to use it. Let the Entertainment system entertain, and slap the following on a sandbag on top of your dash.

Garmin DriveSmart 61 NA LMT-S with Lifetime Maps/Traffic, Live Parking, Bluetooth,WiFi, Smart Notifications, Voice Activation, Driver Alerts, TripAdvisor, Foursquare

My new 2018 has NAV, Put I sure I will be setthing my Garmin back in this truck. I like the live traffic for my morning drive.

You cannot mirror a standalone GPS. But you can mirror Google Maps from Android or Maps from iPhone thru Android Auto or Carplay.

Definitely Garmin. Stay away from TomTom, even the factory NAV is better than them.

I just use Waze through Android Auto and have never had any issues with it. Plus side is, assuming you live in a relatively populated area with people using it, it will warn you of traffic slow downs, cops, road debris, etc.
