I'm in the middle of lifting my 1997 Ram 1500 4x4 5.9 (the back is done) and the type of lift I have is a coil spring in front and I was wondering if I will need some sort of extension for the steering, or if it will not be an issue?

Thanks in advance!

To lift the front end properly 5" you'll need longer control arms, longer shocks, longer sway bar links/sway bar drop, drop pitman arm and a track bar drop (I recomend an adjustable track bar as well)

Thanks for the quick reply, I have all of these things you listed. I also read the thread posted by the guy below yesterday about the basics.. I was just wondering about the steering because I heard from someone that "The stock steering equipment will not be long enough." I didn't think it would be an issue since I bought a kit and it said nothing about needing to extend anything with the steering. Unless that is what all of those parts you listed do...

Thanks

your steering shaft from the steering wheel to the steering box will not change if you doing a suspension lift, so no extension is needed. If your doing a bodylift then you will need an extension. the drop pitman will help set the steering linkage back to the right angle. you will however need a track bar or a drop bracket for the track bar. the steering linkage and trackbar should be close to the same angle. what kit are you installing that would help

I'm installing a rough country 5" just like the one in your sig.

Thanks again for the answers, I didn't want to start before I knew I had everything I needed.

I recommend running the tuff country track bar bracket if you insist on running a factory bar. The T/c bracket has an extra mounting point to a steering box bolt and isn't as likely to come loose, which some R/C brackets have been known to.

I too had to cut off the rear upper control arm bolts, it sucked.. Haha but yeah I'm not sure what I'm going to do with my brake lines yet. I disconnected them from their brackets because they were too short.
