If installed and maintained properly other parts will fail before the ring and pinion.

If I had the torque of a Cummins, I'd be more concerned, but being a 6.4 not so much for me. As with anything, there is risk involved changing any part. There are always failures on any part given the vast amount of variables between material, manufacturing processes, application, tolerances allowed, etc.

HEMI 6.4 with 456
I updated my 373's to 456's and am very happy with that .. 70-75 about 2100 rpm if I remember correctly ... Also, pulls much better than i thought possible. Not sure if I got the best pricing but installed everything for $3,000 here in Florida ... Dealer would only put 410's in at a much higher cost.

I have had two heavy duty trucks with the 6.4 engine. The first had 373s and the one I have now has the 410s. On both trucks I have installed 35s.
The older truck with the 373s hauled around my 8500# travel trailer and it liked 3rd and 4th gears allot and did not like 5th!

My newer truck has 410s and has hauled around my 12,000# fifth wheel with the factory 33s last Summer and it rarely seen 3rd (Except on hills), liked 4th, and on level ground would stay in 5th. Now with the 35s I fear it will be like my old truck and I am preparing to change my gears out too!
I am on the fence to whether it will be 456s or 488s. I don't have a long road trip scheduled til May to see how bad it will be with the 35s! My dealer said they could do it for about what you are being charged(labor).

Anyway I will am now leaning towards the 488s...

Well the gears are here and it's in the shop
They got the swap done and when he took it for the test drive it had some whining.
So he opened it back up made some adjustments and it was still doing it
Talked to him today and they said they have been talking with nitro and think they got the wrong crush sleeve and they are going back together with it now.
I did show up yesterday as they were taking it out and he let me drive it for the test drive
All i can say is wow
I eased the truck up to about 60-65 and other than the whining it moved so easy i couldn't tell how fast i was going
He is hoping all is resolved and done tomorrow
My truck is a 2017 2500 4x4 6.4 hemi
Leveled on 35's

And the Nitro whine strikes again!

What gear ratio did you go with?

Yes. I am running 35’s.

Not to hijack, but I am curious as to your unloaded mileage. Yes, its a truck, but I am considering the same gears to turn my 35s, and am just curious as to the mileage and driving characteristics of the 4.56s on the highway unloaded and not towing.

I'm not sure yet still waiting to get the truck back before i was getting 12 city 14.5 highway on winter blend fuel
No miles yet with the 4.88
I private message a guy buy the name U&A in this forum he was very informative and helped me decide on my gears
He went with 4.88 also i believe with 35's if you can find him i think he has had his gears awhile and may be able to give some gas mileage info with the new gears

I had 4.88s swapped into my 2015 Ram 3500 in the last two weeks as well. Haven’t finished my 500 mile break in period yet, but so far I’m averaging 1.5 mpg more city/highway combined. I’m looking forward to towing my 7500 pound travel trailer once gear break in has finished to see what she’ll do in the mountains. I’m coming from the stock 3.73 gear set and have been running 295/70R18 Cooper ST Pros. (34.5 inch mud terrains)

Yes. I have the 6.4 Hemi in my Ram truck. The MDS is active way more now than before. Especially on the highway and when cruising around town at 35-40 mph.

I’m running the 37x12.5 Terra Grappler G2’s. My EVIC shows anywhere from 12-12.5mpg depending on how much traffic I get stuck in that week or how windy it is...same mileage I got when I had the stock 3.73’s with the 37’s. With the stock tires I would get around 13.5-14.5 on the EVIC. This is with a lot of 75-80mph highay driving. If you drive more in the 65-70 range, expect to get another mpg out of it.

I’m only running 35’s, so I’m hoping I can get a little bit better than that. But, 12 1/2 is still a little better than what I’m getting currently with the 3.73s, which has trouble maintaining 70 mph in 6th.

Imagine how I felt with the 37's and 3.73's...I had to manually shift to 5th every time I'd get on the highway because it couldn't go up any kind of incline in 6th. Now, no issues at all. Very rarely had to drop into 5th to get up a big hill...usually has to have a headwind as well for that to happen.
