Question, Please Help!

Anyways i am the proud owner of a 2003 ram 1500 4.7, the truck runs and shifts perfectly, but ever since owning it, the truck has a "wining" noise coming from it, its hard to differinciate where exactly its coming from but its not present during idle, or when i let off the gas but only when i accelerate and am running down the road with the rpms up, but even while running down the road if i let off the gas, the noise goes away, and when i get back on the accelerator it starts back up again. So any help and info of what it is and how much itll run me will be fantastic.

sounds like a pulley... I know Ive got a whine just like this but it only happens when the a/c is on that I still need to fix lol... If you can have someone else sit in the truck with it in park and rev it up a little while you stand in the front and hold like a pipe or hose up to each pulley to figure out which one it is

Welcome to RF, check the front of the truck and see. The 4.7 should be cable OP TB if I remember right so you can reach up and move that some to add RPM's while looking under the hood if you can not have a second person there.

Check pulleys/belt like mentioned since it occurs under throttle. Do you have an aftermarket intake? There have been other members who have asked about whining/whistling noises just to find out it was their intake.

I am thinking you might have lousy gears in the rear end.
If they backlash isn't right, you can have a whine.

You have a 2 or 4wd?

I'm glad you asked this. I have been bothered by my 02 4.7 whinning all the time while driving. it happens exactly as you mentioned. I thought it was my CAI but when i really get on it you can hear both sounds and the CAI is much deeper sucking type noise this is a whine or whistle that drives me nuts. I'll have to check to pullys like was mentioned.

I used to have an 03 Durango with 4.7L and the Cold Air Intake that whined at idle, but made a lot more noise than that under acceleration.

Before I installed the CAI I had the same air box as the RAM: I wonder if the OEM through-fender air inlet, or some obstruction in that air flow to the air box is the source of your phantom whine.

Thanks guys and yes it is a 2wd and i dont have a cold air intake on it so it cant be that, it is pretty loud under the hood when revved up so at least its not my rear end, and yes it happens in all gears as it speeds up, its constant so im thinking its probably a pulley or belt... (Hopefully)

I agree its a constant noise under exceleration, as soon as you let off the throttle it stops.

Well that eliminates my thought that it could be a bearing in the transmission. I have a slight whine/grind in 6th gear and ony at certain speeds which I believe to be a bearing.

Could it be a belt squeeling? Thats what comes to mond when you say that it can get pretty loud when revved up. Otherwise like others have said, look to a pulley as a culprit.

Open your hood look on the left side, two line marked transmission come up and go into the radiator, the two lines are secured by a bracket with one 10mm screw. I removed screw and fit a piece of rubber in that was thick enough so the lines won't move.
