My uncle built a nice 305 for my cousins little Monza Spider, using the heads and cam out of an old 283 Power Pack that had the small chamber heads on it.That bumped the compression up probably a point and half, with the solid lifter power pack cam,and 4 barrel with headers that little car was surprising for a smogger 305.
I'm not sure why they didn't stick with the 307 instead of the 305 though,as the 307 had a longer stroke and was a far torquer motor then the 305 was,and in a small cube motor that they were sticking in everything from 1/2 tons down, torque was what you needed

If I remember correctly, you could only get the 4 speeds with the 305, the automatics came with the 350.
Up here they still had 350's ahead of the 4 speeds. We never had a Z in the late 70's /early 80's with a 305,they were all 350's up till the body change in 82.You guys got the 305 with a 4 speed,we never did

I love the 68 with Center Lines, but then again i'm a bit biased :Big Laugh: :waytogo:
The Center Lines look alot like the ones that were stole off my old 68,drilled in the same pattern for rim screws and little skinny front runners, lol.
If that SS Camaro was a bench seat column shifted auto, they just might be my old rims,as a couple months after they were stole i found the rims and tires on another 68 SS,aarrgghh. I phoned the cops, and they said there was bugger all i could do,and when i asked the cops what would happen if i went and stole them back, they warned me not to do it

Mr. 4 speed! Miss those days, more "man" and less computers! LOL
Ever notice how all the 4 speed masters like Sox / Jenkins etc, used a T handle shifter and had the T handle angled so it was inline with the 2-3 gate. There was a reason for that handle and having it set so the 2-3 shift was basically an angled straight line. When you don't lift on the shifts, that made the 2-3 shift alot faster :waytogo:
None of the old masters used a ball shifter or Chryslers stupid pistol grip shifter,i was never a fan of the pistol grip, lol

You are right about the angle on the H pattern. My straight line shifter it was straight across T handle. I've always liked the pistol grip and had it in a lot of my cars, not that it was better at shifting as much as I liked the looks and being different! LOL

I hated the pistol grip,as it sucked to do no lift shifts with, lol

A good buddy had a 73 Sebring Plus in high school with the 400,after we bolted the heads off a wrecked 69 383 Road Runner onto it,and threw one of the old Purple cams in it,it would give alot of 440's a run for their money.

Even green that's a very good looking car. The cragars and white letter tires really makes it to me.

I loved the old 5 spoke Cragars in the 70's,then when Centerline came out with their lightweight Auto/Drag rims,i fell in love with them, lol
The only downside to the old Cragars was their weight, they were heavy as hell

LOL - Yes they were, and it was unsprung weight, but hey, they did look good!
I never did weigh a 15 X 10 Cragar with an old 295/50 T/A radial on it,but they were heavy as hell to put on a vehicle, that i do remember :Big Laugh: But damn they looked good, especially if the brake drum behind it was detailed nicely
