Stay with me here.
I have a manual rearview mirror. The switch at the bottom is supposed to be in the rearward position (toward the windshield) for daytime viewing, and pulled forward for nighttime viewing. When the switch is pulled forward it actually tilts the mirror upward and dims the lights behind me by angling the glass. This is how it is supposed to work. Here is my problem.
I am not exceedingly tall - 6' 2" - but in order for me to have the mirror in the correct position for daytime viewing so I can see out the back window I must tilt the whole mirror all the way up. But if I keep the switch in the daytime position (rearward) it still will not tilt up far enough and I have to lean down to see out the back window, so I have to set the switch for nighttime viewing to give myself that extra 1/4" of upward lift. This causes me to have to reverse the daytime/nighttime positions of the switch and using the daytime position at night doesn't work so well as the lights behind me are blurry and doubled.
So basically, I have to do one of two things. If I'm driving at night I either have to physically tilt the entire mirror down a bit so I'm not blinded, but this causes me to have to duck my head to see behind me. Or, I have to flip the switch to the daytime position at night, but this causes the lights behind me to be doubled and out of focus.
I actually had the idea that they may have installed the mirror mount upside down as there is no reason I should need to have the mirror in the fully lifted position to begin with. Any ideas?
