Recall for Tailgate Flying Open

Thanks for posting, mine has done this 2-3 times and I thought it was me doing something wrong or I left it down.

I haven't even gotten the Cruise Control fixed yet.

Might just wait until they have 3 or 4 more and they can just do them all at once.

I'm too busy to sit around a dealership, so they'll all just have to wait.

I think they will install an updated locking mechanism.

Would be nice if they would give us the ability to disable the tailgate locking and unlocking with the doors, to minimize wear on the mechanism to begin with.

I just had the cruise control recall done on my truck and on the way home I checked to see if cruise control still worked and it did

Yea, I checked mine a couple of weeks ago after my fix. On/Off Accel/Decel all good!

I have a recall on my 2011 2500 diesel. I've had the EGR deleted and the DPF removed and a 4" exhaust installed. Can I still take my truck to a dealership for a recall?

I didn't think 2011 had a power lock on the tailgate. My 2011 laramie is a manual lock.

So did I. But after I unlock my gate it will stay unlocked until I cycle the door locks from my fob. Then the tailgate is locked again

Makes me wonder if mine doesn't have it or wasn't working from the factory as I bought it new. If you don't want to fix it I imagine you could unplug the actuator. Might be on the same plug as the reverse camera though.

The problem is due to the power-locking functionality of the tailgate on certain Ram trucks. A small piece inside the latch mechanism can break, allowing a component to move too far and pull on the unlocking arms, thus unlatching the tailgate. The recall involves modifying the latch to limit how far the actuator components can move. Ram plans to notify customers and dealers about the recall on Sept. 14. Until then, the automaker advises customers to tie-down or otherwise secure any cargo.

The recall doesn't affect every single 2015-2017 Ram truck. It's only applicable to models with power-locking, rather than manual, tailgates. And it also excludes trucks with an eight-foot bed. Still, 1.1 million is far from an insignificant number of vehicles.

Isn't that great?!?! 2 recalls on a brand new truck in less than 6 months. (Mine is a loaded up 2016 Ram Sport 4X4, rcsb which I order as I wanted back in 2015.)

You could always sell it and buy a problem free pickup. When you find one of those, let me know so I can buy one too

Yeah, I bought mine 3 months ago, 3 recalls now. I don't mind, I'm glad they are fixing the issues. My old Cruze had several recalls, I don't mind. If it takes any time, I get a loaner, and at least it's fixed under warranty.
