I'm slowly getting all my backroads recovery gear in place. Kinetic Recovery Ropes are all the rage anymore. I do have a tow strap, had it forever since my Jeep days, that I have never used. It has no stretch and if it held would snap a neck if you tried to get a running start on pulling a vehicle out of a jam.

These Recovery Ropes are expensive. Cheap if you ever have get yourself out of a pickle (even if used only once), but expensive if it just sits in the back of the truck forever never being used.

This morning I discovered the Snatch Strap. Most important it still has the Kinetic elasticity (10-20% stretch) of the heralded recovery ropes (20-30% stretch), but at 1/3 or more less expensive. Cha-Ching!!! Ordered!!!

Should do the trick. Just make sure you have two D-Rings that have a high enough rating to attach it to the two vehicles.

Installed tow hooks on the front of the Ram over a month ago. Ordered and now have a Shackle Hitch Receiver, and a few soft shackles also stored away in the Ram. I've lots and lots of cable, chains, hard shackles, tree savers, etc that I have collected over the years for my yearly firewood collecting.

The snatch strap is about the final item. Only thing really missing is a good winch, but I need to find a worth replacement front bumper. Every now and then I search, but no joy.

I had a regular strap for decades, pulled all sorts of vehicles. A couple of years ago the UTV slid off the road and bogged down. Probably the easiest pull and it snapped. Message to self, get a new one every so often!

Check out Bullet Proof Bumpers in Red Deer Alberta. You see a lot of their bumpers on oiloilfield, first reponder, and conservation officer vehicles. Strong, light for what they are, and a bolt on

I used a Warn Transfomer to mount my 16000 lb warn to my 2500.

Thanks. I'll look it all over later. Much of what I am finding is the later Gen 5's are harder to find bumpers for. Collision avoidance sensors, and the air dam are not easily compatible with older style replacement bumpers. Might be a few years til someone in manufacturing realizes there is a new market of Ram they need to design for.

Yup. Nice. Looks like it is not mounted to the bumper but from underneath to the frame. That is were the air damn becomes the problem. Not sure how much I might lose in MPG if I remove the air damn, and will the Ram's electrical system allow me to disconnect and remove the dam system. Knowing what I know of these new trucks, it might barf out a piston if I try.

Ideally a recovery strap/rope should be rated 2 - 3 times the weight of the vehicle, unless you're pulling out a HD truck plus a trailer that strap is a bit oversized. Too much capacity of a recovery strap and it won't stretch enough.

Long before the synthetic recovery ropes were around, there were several companies that manufactured "recovery" straps, not to be confused with "tow" straps. In the late 70's I purchased a "snatch-em" strap, and still use it today. It performs with similar kinetic energy as the recovery ropes today. I also have a couple of recovery ropes as well. The strap stores nicer behind the seat. The new ropes of today might work better, so it is a buyers choice. The synthetic ropes, which lines, and soft shackles sure have come a long ways. I would suggest adding to your list of recovery "goodies", are "soft shackles".

I do have the soft shackles safely tucked away in the Ram. I also have TOW straps, that I have never used. I'll put them into the truck as well. I've probably had them for over 30 years, before kinetic ropes/straps were created.

Interesting thing I finally answered to my satisfaction -- Why never use a tow ball as an anchor when doing a recovery. I've heard this many times over the years, without explanation.

Here it is ->

These hitch shackles come in 2 and 2.5" rated from 13,000 LBs all the way up to 80,000. Make sure the shackle has a high enough load rating as well. I have a 50,000 LB 2.5" with a 60,000LB shackle on my 2500 and it stays in my receiver full time and only gets swapped out if I need to tow something.

This is what I ordered and is now in the Ram. Suppose to be able to withstand 45,000 pounds.
