I know there has been a few threads about this, but I really want to share my 2 cents. :)

My truck has a mere 6k miles on it and was running M1 oil for the last 3k miles. One week ago, I changed my oil to Redline.

In the first few days I did notice my engine seemed more smooth and quiet, but now a week later, the difference is VERY noticeable! It is super quiet and smooth!

Tonight after I got home, I got out of my truck and left the engine running, just to listen to it. Compared to before, it sounds like I threw a sound dampening blanket over it!

I did have a mild hemi tick before Redline, but there is no trace of any tick at all now. I am so impressed with Redline, that I will be dumping my 75w90 Royal Purple (nothing against Royal Purple) gear oil next week, and switching to Redline 75w140 gear oil.

Also, big thanks to Burla for helping me so much with my oil related issues this week!!! You are da man Burla! If you are ever in SoCal, I will buy you lunch and we can talk about hemis and motoroil while we eat!!!

Your welcome, a lot of guys are liking this stuff. At a minimum, after your oil change interval cut that filter open and visualize it, and maybe even do a UOA. If you cant cut it open, send it to me and I'll do it. So Cal is my old stomping grounds, lived in Santa Barbara for three years, so I may just hit you up for that free lunch sometime.

Ive got a few more miles before my next change, but Im gonna go with Redline too and a RP filter. Quick question. How long with the changes with Redline? 5, 7, 10k miles? Ill also note my truck has 30000 miles, so itll be a switch to syn pretty far along. Ill let you know how it does.

As far as change intervals, Burla is the oil guru on here. He would answer that much better than me.
But I drive very few miles, so I will be changing my oil every 6-8 months.

I look farward to hearing the difference it makes for you. I am a little shocked at the difference...

I will do that. Lunch on me, next time you are out here! SB is a beautiful city. I am in Redondo Beach. :)

What oil change intervals should we be following, Burla?? Miles, months, visual check, etc.?

I have ran Amsoil pretty much exclusively forever. After hearing all of y'all talk about redline I think I'll be giving it a try in my new truck!

Lots of guys on here are happy with it, but Redline get's amazing user reviews off the forums by Ram drivers specifically too.

BTW, I do not work for or own stock in Redline, I am just amazed at the difference it made! Lol :)

So If I told you a "number" for a change interval, I could be right or I could be wrong, like I was with my own Ram. To really make your change intervals safe you need a run a UOA with your oil in your truck at least once. Blackstone labs will tell you a good interval. So what I would do, and did, it after 5k miles switch the filter and take a sample and send it in. My opinion is that Redlien should easily go to a 10k interval, but it really depends on if your engine is running like it should, which mine wasn't/isn't. So if you asked me this question and you were driving a Honda Accord, I would probably say your OCI should be between 18k and 25k. But with the Hemi, I am finding out from many UOA's that it is a crap shoot. I am definitely not a guru on the Hemi, just trying to figure it all out myself. We all were put in a pickle when Ram decided we had to use 5w20 in such a temperamental engine. Sorry wont have the answers for 2 years when I try another UOA and another with a heavier oil. Until then anyone's guess is as good as mine.

^^Thats kinda depressing. I mean the results are great (hopefully for me they will be too) but over 130 bucks for every 5000 miles could get expensive.

I am not saying 5k at all, I am saying make it a commitment to find out what is best for your truck like I'm doing with mine. Anyone can say oh yeah do this and you will be fine or don't do that and you will be fine. I can say there is a member in this forum who ran 5w20 conventional oil for 70k miles and needed a new engine. I bet he would have put some effort into his lubrication had he had it to do over again. I'm not saying that using a different oil or weight would have changed that engine's fate, but it is certainly "possible" it could have.

To be honest, I was a little depressed with what is going on with the Ram Hemi. But IMO it is worth the effort when compared to all of the other choices with full size pickup. The Ford drives like a dump truck and I will never buy another Chevy. My Nissan owner doesn't even stock the Titan it is so bad, lol. It takes a little more advanced ownership to take care of these, a little more effort and a little more caring. They aren't plug and play, they are plug and find out what happened and fix it, and then play. From gear swaps, to simple levels, to oil, etc nothing is as easy as it used to be.

A little extra money spent on good oil, is so worth it. Both in the long run, and also for daily peace of mind. Just MHO. :)

I am completely and totally sold on Redline oils. Not because I listened to the hype, but because I am experiencing it first hand. Mobil 1 is a great oil, Porsche recommends Mobil 1 in their cars. The Mobil 1 would have continued to work fine in my Ram, but Redline has taken it to another level.

I will do some rough, high-performance driving and report back my impressions on that too. Just gotta get done breakin these dang gears in... brrrrmmm, brrrrmmmmm... screeeeeeeeech! :)

Maybe I'm spoiled by my dealer pricing on Amsoil, but the Redline is SOOOOOOO expensive up here, it's ridonculous. While it may be better, it's a tough justification for just that delta of how much better it may be.:hmm:

Redline is the cheapest "group 5" oil company, Motul 300v line is a couple bucks more and in many places is 20 bucks a liter which is just tad more then a qrt. It costs a lot of money for group 5 oil because they have to "make" it, not just pull it from the ground. It isn't for everyone, but you wont get group 5 synthetic oil any cheaper. Amsoil is certainly a good choice as well as the new Ultra which was a step forward against the tide of lowering the quality of oils, but they still are not group 5 and don't have the same characteristics. I'm not even saying better characteristics, they both have strong points, it is just my preference.

Seams like Ram forumers are choosing about 50/50 when it comes between the two Amsoil and redline when it comes to the top tier. Sounds about perfect to me, both have strong points, and amsoil certainly leads in the price category - no small point.

Actually, check ebay and Amazon. If you are willing to buy a case. there are some pretty good deals. I saw a case of 12 for under $140 with free shipping.

That's a good find. It's VERY hard to find redline at a deal because they have a minimum advertised price policy so it's pretty much the same in every area. The place I used to work for was a redline dealer, we stocked redline and motul. Both are great oils. We put them in highly modified engines and stuck to them exclusively. Everything from straight 4's to flat 6's and they all love redline!

That's interesting that Redline has map pricing. Even at the map price, if you can get free shipping, that's a pretty good deal.

I can't seem to find Reline anywhere in Canada. Online or stocked on the shelves. Cost to ship is as much as the purchase price. $250 a change isn't gonna happen. Found Amsoil and RP on the shelf at Canadian Tire yesterday tho so looks like I'll be switching out to one of those when it's first oil change time. I'd hazard either of those will be better for my truck than the conventional from the dealer.
