i have a 2015 ram 3500 dually with 128,000 miles. the tpms sensors are the orginal ones that came with the tuck. i have had problems when i get a tire rotation as the tpms sensors do not get relocated to match how the tires were rotated. they still send the tire pressure but it is at the wrong position on the dashboard display. i took it to the dealer and they said the batteries in the tpms sensors are low. they could put new OEM sensors in for over $800. i am going to need tires soon and the ideal time to replace the sensors would be when the tires get replaced. the tire shops say they can put in aftermarket sensors for about $400. i could probably get that cost down a bit as they would have to dismount the tire to put new ones on and the $400 includes the labor to dismount / mount the tire to put the sensor in. no sense paying for the same labor twice. my concern is whether the aftermarket sensors are fully compatible with the ram OEM sensors.

does anybody have experience using aftermarket tpms sensors? how long to they last? any other thoughts?

thanks

Ive had aftermarket ones for years and years on different vehicles, never had an issue

In fact, the only TPMS related issue i ever had is on the winter wheels on my wifes grocery getter, and those happen to have the stock sensors in them

If i were in your shoes, id have new ones installed when you get new tires, and id go with whatever the shop is comfortable with

(Come to think of it, when they first came out with TPMS systems, i believe they recommend replacing the sensors with each set of new tires)

I find the tire sensors to be not worth the trouble. It is illegal to turn them off or get rid of them.
The next time I get tires I will be having a discussion with the installer about them.
