So I'm getting ready to upgrade my tires I have 20s right now but I want to go smaller either to a 17x9 or 18x9 going to be running Fuel Assault wheels with Nitto 35"x13.50"x? Tires

Don't care what it rides like just want to be able to take a curb but still look good your thoughts please and if you have any pictures of the 1500 with 17 or 18's running 35's with a leveling kit post them up

Why not 20" wheels? Here are my 35's on 20's.

Offset will be the key for you . . . In a 9" wheel, 0 offset might work with those 13.5's, but I'm guessin you'll need -12 offset to be sure . . . Tires sure are cheaper in 17"

I'm no expert, but I was thinking the same thing but changed my mind when someone brought up a good point. If your rig has factory 20's, you might want to stay with those because an 18" or 17" may not clear your braking system. Just something you ought to look in to.

Because I would rather have a little more sidewall to take hits better. What kind a lift do you have?
I've got a 2" front level, 1.5" rear level with a 3" body lift

Well actually I'm not sure if my 2011 ram 1500 came with stock 20 inch rims it is the Big Horn edition but it had aftermarket 20s does anyone know if I need to stick with 20s? I don't think I do

You'll be fine with 17's or 18's. I had factory 20's and went down to 18's. Just picked up a set of 17's for the winter and will be going back to 20's for the summer I'm thinking. Just keep in mind that 18's usually have less tire size choices. In my experience anyway.

Were there different brake calipers/discs depending on stock whee size? I didn't think so. Since some 1500s came with 17s I think you would be fine. I've never heard about different trims having different calipers/discs.

That's what I thought so I think what I'm going to do I already have a 2 1/2 inch leveler in the front I want fuel assault rims but I want to bigger stance because they don't come in anything but -12 so I was going to throw 1 inch spacers on

May want to wait to order the spacers. With -12 and 35s with just a level you may rub at full turn. I would put them on and see if you like it without the spacers first.
I had stock 20s and dropped to 17s and they clear the brakes fine.

So would the spacers hurt or help me with clearing when I turn?

-12 is more than enough for 12.50's ... There is no need for spacers ... Soacers will only create a rub problem id you are not fully lifted

Spacers will cause it to rub where?

Mines a 14 QC 4X4, so maybe not a good comparison for you but my truck came with factory 20x9 s and my spare is a 17x9, the size of the disk and caliper can dictate the rim size , also with some lift kits when components change some call out a minimum of 18" wheel for clearance , so if you plan on a lift in the future verify what wheel size they require .
As far as 17" wheels , I love them ! I want 17s when I upgrade . I personally don't care for 20" + because I like more side walls for curb rash and the snow & mud doesn't get packed in with more side wall ! More advantages for 17s =tire sidewall weighs less than the wheel so less wt @ each hub to get turning and more sidewall equals smoother ride .

My wife has 22s on her magnum her winter tires are 18s and it rides much better with more sidewall!
