So I have only two rust spots on my truck. I want to see if I can take care of them myself. They aren't holes, but rather superficial I guess you'd say, but I do not want them spreading. What would be a good way I can fix them myself? Sand them down real well? One is about the size of a quarter., the other area is even smaller. Thanks for any input.

WOOPS! This was supposed to be in the 2nd generation section. Dunno how I made it here, I apologize mods!

I'm concerned as to where the rust spots are.
If its on the door bottoms or wheel wells, it's very likely the rust is coming through from the backside, and is not as 'small' as you may think. :-(

Be prepared to be opening another can of worms.

Whats the locations of the rust spots? that would aid in someone being able to chime in with the best help for your problem, maybe even pictures of the spots? If it's on the body than the simple light sanding, priming, painting, and clearing should do the trick. I would hope that it'd be a cheap repair for a shop to do also.

Nice truck btw, reminds me of my 99 which was the same color and going down the same black/white yours is.

I will get pics tomorrow.

One is on my passenger door, about 4 inches below where my sideview mirror is. (She was hit by a bb gun on accident, and the bb is what started the spot :/ )

The other is on the right front fender right where it meets the bumper.

You live in LA?

Unless you live on the coast, you just need to sand and paint them.

We're right on the LA/MS line.

I circled the two spots on this pic, though they're pretty hard to see in this pic.....

Gotcha, but are you in an area where there is a salt water problem?

If not, you don't really have a lot to worry about in that it will only be surface rust. You just have to catch it before it starts peeling paint.

Not really no. Yeah the paint is flaking off right around the bigger spot on the door. :( Didn't want the paint to keep chipping.

I just recently purchased my first Ram. 1996 1500, 5.9L Lifted 2 inches. Beautiful truck, but I noticed it has some rust in a particular spot that Im skeptical about.

Sorry for the image size. I just wanted to know how bad this is for a Ram with 200,000 miles on it. and if anyone had repaired something like this

Well what to say.

Some of it is not bad, sand, prime, paint with POR-15.

Rockers are available so those are easy to get.

Ok now for the bad news, the front body mounts are toast and guess what no one makes a replacement part. You will have to build your own or find a cab with a good one to weld under your truck.

If someone does know where to get them PLEASE post up the info as to where to get one, as I am down to looking for a used cab to get one from. Many a web site say they have them but when contacted nope NLA.

Thanks for the info. Ive been looking around and I guess the only fix is to have it fabricated or to cut out a good one from a doner truck and weld it.
