I took a quick look at my sagging park brake cable. It does not appear that I would have enough travel on the mid length adjuster to elevate it back into proper position. As most of these types of items are "known", I figured I'd ask here first before I crawl under.

Thanks for suggestions
Edit: should have added the park brake functions normally but the cable is sagging way too low

Believe you're going to have to adjust from the rear brake adjuster inside the rotor. I have the exact same problem. Dealer said they adjusted it and it's good to go but I believe parking g brake is sticking and caused it to rub on rotors and now rear rotors are warped

First, at the axle, make sure the park brake level is fully retracted, whack it with a hammer and punch to make sure it's all the way to the rear since it's very common for them to either stick/seize or just rust about halfway between. Use some penetrating oil first to try and break any rust up.

On my 2013 quad cab 1500 it did the same thing. I just adjusted it there below the cab and it tightened right up

Mine did this last year and it was frozen parking brake arms on the brakes. The dealer freed them up and it worked fine. It is starting to sag again and I am going to take a look myself.

I have read a number of posts, and the dealer also said, don't adjust the slack adjuster under the truck, it is for balancing left and right. The proper way to tighten up the cable is by using the adjusters in the back brakes.

This right here. Had to do this to mine recently. Then throw some high temp lithium on there.

Lol, small world!

Everything will eventually seize around here it seems. Even though I was using the parking brake everyday.

yeah my '12 looked exactly the same, tried to adjust it but it wouldn't move, dealer wanted $400 to fix it...no thanks. I zip tied it up under the truck so I can't see it. Still works fine

OK. You guys were right on the money......levers at the brake were not retracted. Persuaded them back into position with a hammer and the cable raised right up again. However, as I did initially try to adjust slack out of the cable at the mid-adjuster, and it is now at the end of it's threaded travel, I suspect that if I were to loosen it then tap those levers a bit more, the cable would probably tighten up properly. I believe the mid-adjuster is in fact a balancer for right / left brake as the cables split right there and are obviously of different length. The longer one being the hardest to "re-set" as you would expect. Geez, sorry that was wordy....but I think you can get it. Just a PITA issue.
Thanks again :favorites13: on me

They really are a crappy design I tightened mine with the cable and it then wore out the shoes inside. I should probably fix but don't care as long as it works when applied and my rear brakes still work I am happy.

I hit the parking brake linkage on the back of the backing plates with Fluid Film every fall. This helps to keep them from rusting and lubricates the linkage.

And here we go again. Lubed and cycled several times.

^Time to throw the rear on jackstands, pull the wheels and the rotors and look closer.
