When I was contracting in the ME, there was a small but significant amount of guys who planned to contract for 5 years then retire forever to the Philippines. Of course, most of them had married a LBFM who was happily spending their money already.
Im visiting Maine as we speak, made the 800 mile trip in yesterday from Niagara Falls, boy was i thankful the weather yesterday wasn't what it was today, I had a few white knuckle moments today, specially once trying to get onto the highway while my passenger side wheels were in slush that seemed to be determined to steer me into the railing

I live up north, and as mentioned, pickups are light
in the rear end. I add 2 60 lb. sand bags in the
back of the 5.5 ft. bed, behind the wheel wells. It helps even the balance. Why spin the rear wheels when you can do it better.
I also run in AWD, most of the winter.

I was wondering , do we still want to put sandbags in the bed for those snowy days? I live in a particularly snowtastic area and was wondering if we still needed to with modern trucks.
Why not? It can only help in having better traction imo ‍♂️

In years past I just ran a 750 lb. ATV up into the bed for very bad driving conditions. Easily removed when not needed. Since I mounted Duratracs on the rear as snow tires, I haven't needed the ATV.

...and you have an escape pod if you need it!

That's clever AF.

This doesn't help with grit but where I am we don't get a lot of snow anymore so I just shovel snow into my bed when I need the weight and you don't have to unload it, let it melt out and you don't have to keep up with sand bags.
