My 2019 Classic has been flawless. I love the truck and really like my dealer. This week I have cruise set on 70 mph and we (4 of us) start up a long steep bridge. Cruise adapts, downshifts and engine revs high. Cresting the bridge, the cruise does not re-adjust, engine still revving high and accelerating down the bridge. I hit brakes and it does not disengage. I tap and release accelerator pedal, nothing changes. We hit 85 going downhill until I brake hard and turn off cruise manually. During the excitement, the cluster flashes "Throttle --- something" message. It happened so fast with so much going on I did not remember the exact words. Trucks slows, the message disappears, but a lighting bolt symbol stays displayed.

Next morning, truck starts normally, symbol is gone. I dropped it off at the dealer today. I will update once I hear something. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Unintentional acceleration is not something to ignore. Probably just software but we will see.

Yes, it likely said something along the lines of "service throttle control". I've seen/heard it happening with a pedal commander installed occasionally.

watching to see if it's the truck or the add-on pedal commander, scary indeed, yes.

I do not have a pedal commander. My truck is bone stock.

I could be misrembering but their may be a TSB for this too and/or a recall.
There was a cruise control recall that was a few years back that his truck may be part of.

DID U check EVIC for any stored messages/codes? DID U have a Code Reader to pull codes???

CRASH: I remember reading something on a Throttle/Cruise control TSB-recall. Not copied ne thing because did not apply to my ED then.

Yes my dealer did a quick check of the codes when I dropped it off. He said four codes relating to the throttle are showing. He assured me they will follow up in a day or two (they are real busy). I have confidence at this point they will resolve it. I will stay tuned...

So it turns out here is apparently nothing to fix. No TSB's, no new codes thrown (after clearing old ones out), nothing to do at this point. They took my RAM on "several test drives" that equated to 35 miles... At least it is documented. I am hoping for the best.

Mine happened once and never again. Instead of speeding up mine slowed down, almost as if the truck was in limp mode.

If it should happen again, when the vehicle accelerates on its own.
Remember, to use NEUTRAL

Once you are in Neutral, you can then try the brakes or playing with the throttle or using the Emergency Brake if necessary

Thats a good idea. I almost never get nervous or flustered behind the wheel but it was a bit of a dicey situation. Accelerating downhill on a bridge, could not go left or right, and about to rear end a slower tanker truck. Thats why I did not lock in on the initial throttle message that displayed. Its all good now. I am not going to be concerned about it unless t happens again. I bet it won't.

Man that's a weird one. Glad you're all OK and the so is the truck. I'd be curious to know what system got so confused on the truck and why?

Wish I could help. Between my 2017 Ram 1500 pentastar and my 2019 classic w/ hemi, I've used the CC very little, as in almost never. Mainly because of my particular routes, but mostly just out of preference. I do lots of highway, but there's tons of curves, hills and several long bridges just like you describe. Even on long trips in I tend not to use CC for what ever reason.

Had something similar happen at work some time back. I needed to get to the other end of our site so I hopped in an old Kawaski Mule we have. Cruising along the engine stumbled so I gassed it and the go-pedal stuck to the floor. WHOAAAA!! Brakes didn't do much so I killed the ignition and then freed up the gas pedal. Nearly pooped my pants.

I also drive a lot, when i am running my business
I have driven 4,000 miles in a single month, just for my business

I use my Cruise Control when i am not escorting a semi truck
I have learned to shut my CC Off if any water is sitting on the road surface

Yeah, CC kick in, could hydroplane a lil, LOL. I use CC 95% of the time. I have to to keep my checkbook and wallet in a self sustaining mode.

ADDED: While I am thinking about it. On CC, at least on MY 19, when engaged, and U R at speed, then hit a downgrade, the CC will attempt to keep at set speed when going down a grade by downshifting and increasing engine RPM as a result. Try to remember to disengage if going down a long grade. Just a saying.
