Keep us updated on how they pan out.Got a set of sealed power 5.7 hemi lifters in gen 4 hemi seam good and quite. Looking to see how long they last compared to oem.
The OP hasn't been back since Jan 4th,hopefully he pops in and updates us,as i'm also curious on how they're holding upAny update on this? Originals are sometimes a bit hard to obtain, not to mention their price. And I know Enginetech are to be avoided.
Got one MDS set from Rockauto, spend 2 days taking the head off, cleaning, preparing, milling the exhaust manifold (was 0.75mm up at both ends, but there were no broken manifold bolts) and putting it all together just to find out that on a hot engine one or more of the new lifters makes much worse noise than the old one.
AVOID THIS CRAP!!! I will return them for refund, but noone will refund me a weekend spent replacing them with perfect weather for much more pleasant things to do.
Little tidbit for you, there's actually more oil supplied to the lifter galleys when the engines in MDS mode. Takes oil pressure to push the pins in so the lifters collasp, when you disable MDS there's less oil to the lifter bores. BTW when you're pushing the Johnsons, you should also be pushing a high volumn oil pump, the stock pump doesn't supply enough volumn to offset the internal oil leak the Johnsons createThat's a bummer.
We should petition Johnson to make MDS lifters.
This lifter thing is stupid! I built the engine that's in my boat in 2010, using a 150,000 mile Chevy L98, from an 87 IROC Z camaro, converted to a 383 stroker with a comp cams 264H roller cam. The OEM chevy roller lifters had 150,000 miles on them when I built that engine 15 years ago. I've been using it in a marine environment for 15 years. The lifters have been completely trouble free. Once, the Holley fuel pump **** the bed about 30 miles out from San Diego bay, but I had a spare onboard and swapped it out in 20 minutes, but other than that it has been trouble free.
I wonder if the Johnson non MDS lifters are as reliable as the old school L98 lifters.
It sucks that you can't disable MDS in AlphaOBD.
Ken you might also want to read this article to.That's a bummer.

Spend 16 minutes and watch this video right to the end,he also shows the MDS delete plugs you should install when you do a MDS delete cam.

Is MDS Damaging Your HEMI? The Answer May Surprise You!
I feel like MDS has been unfairly made the culprit for the lifter failures we see on Gen 3 Hemi engines. In this video I explain exactly how the system works...www.youtube.com
You're 13 is easy to tune,it's not till 2015 that they started to get harder to tune. You're 13 doesn't need an unlocked pcmYes, i remember that video. I've seen it a few times. And the MMX article too.
When I mentioned disabling MDS, I was thinking along the lines of a MDS delete, with the solenoid plugs, Johnson lifters, Hi volume pump and everything.
As stupid as this is going to sound, the only thing about the MDS delete that I have a hard time with is using a Tuner to disable MDS. I've always had an aversion to those things. If it were possible to just turn it off via AlphaOBD, i could talk myself into it pretty easy.
So far my engine runs perfectly and quietly. If and when the cam get wiped, i'll go with OEM mds lifters and cam since there isn't a way to do a MDS delete without the tuner.
MMX sells a no tune cam,if you haven't checked out their cam selections yet.Yes, i remember that video. I've seen it a few times. And the MMX article too.

Beaters never DieHmm, well in that case, i think maybe i'll keep this truck forever. If/when the cam ***** the bed, ill go non MDS with MMX Cam and Mopar delete kit. The Diablo Tuner seems easy to use according to some youtube videos.
Or, maybe i'll get lucky like my nephew.
I have a nephew who got his first truck at age 17, about 5 years ago. Being a kid with no money, and very entry level low paying jobs, what he could afford in a truck wasn't much.
He got a 2009 Ram 5.7 with 250,000 miles. It was a farm truck, covered with dents, rust, the tailgate bashed in, and an absurd amount of idle hours. He changed the oil every 3000-5000 miles with whatever oil and filters wal-mart had on sale, and somehow is still driving it at over 300,000.
Yet, on this site you see a new cam failure thread every other day, at much lower mileage, and from guys who use top tier oil, filters, additives, etc etc.![]()
