Separating steering at the u joint

hi all,
Wondering if anyone has disconnected the steering u joint/shaft on our year/s truck?
I only saw 5th hen rams dislocate and install shorties on a couple vids.

I think most guys disconnect the shaft,it makes installing headers a little easier.Try not to turn anything if you do,or mark the shaft

Use the seat belt to tie the steering wheel down so it cannot be turned while disconnected.

I used a bungee cord,wrapped it through the wheel,then pulled it out through the door jamb and closed the door on it,but using the seatbelt is another good option,anything that keeps the wheel from turning while it's disconnected from the shaft will work.Good idea using the seatbelt Fast.

I've been using the seat belt for many years. It keeps me from having to clean the steering wheel after using a bungee cord that's been floating around in my tool cart or after using a mini ratchet strap. Most customers seat belts are clean and grease free.
