I agree the trans coolers are top notch on these trucks. However, my oil temp will run 10 to 20 deg. hotter than engine temp. unloaded. I expected less temp with a 7qt. pan? Does anyone make a good oil cooler? What is the shear temp of today's oil? I guess what I'm asking is, at what temp do we worry about the oil breaking down? Assuming we all use standard grade recommended oil?

This is exactly why I went and got my Cummins. Anyway, did you really need to keep it in 3rd or 4th gear? Why not just hit the tow/haul button and let the computer do its job?

It was in tow/haul......and stayed in 4th anyways. I just move the selector to see where its at and just left it there....

I just did a 500 mile tow with my enclosed car hauler. I put the $100 air lift bags on. wow, the difference is un believable. I ran 20 lbs. in the bags towing my Porsche and it is smooth. The front end sway is all gone and the truck stays level. Best $100 I ever spent. Overall, maybe I should have kept my Cummins, but I couldn't take the DPF issues any longer. I tow 3 times a year and will deal with the 6-8 MPGs. The rest of the time, this thing runs like a sports car. Quick, nimble and smooth!!

We pulled our 7,000lb 32' trailer back home last week (uphill, against the wind) and got 10MPG keeping it right at 60mph. Temps were exactly the same as travelling to our destination at 85mph empty; impressive.
And I agree- Airlift 1000s may be the best $100 you could spend on your truck if you tow.

Can anyone help with the temp. at which oil breaks down and looses viscosity? Are these temps even worth worrying about? Are they way too high and warrant concern? Dino oil vs. Syn. for thermal breakdown? I tried googling the info and couldn't come up with much in layman's terms... lol
