Hey guys,
I have been noticing that it can take a full second or two before my truck downshifts on wot. Feels as if a CAI would help the response because the tyranny shift is based on load not rpm correct? At the same time it IS a truck. Has anyone with an after market intake noticed a change in this behavior?

I think you may want to look at one of the tuner threads.

I have a s&b intake on my 12' 5.7 and at WOT it pulls noticeably harder, but has always downshifted rather quickly. What gears do you have in your truck?

I have the 3.92 rear end. It just feels like it has a hesitation but once it connects it pulls strong..

Two words...torque converter!

Before mine, my truck wouldn't even chirp the tires. Let's just say I don't have that problem anymore :rockit:

If the mds is on when he tromps it, he'll have to wait for it to go off and then downshift before it takes off. Try manually putting the selector in 6th gear then get on it, see if it helps.

Putting it in manual mode disables MDS. Give that try because I hated it too but when I started driving in city or just taking off in manual mode my truck became really fun and responsive even before my new TB.

Its not mds. I'll put a CAI and new exhaust in.. See how that feels.

CAI etc won't help with the delay in downshifting when you mash on it. Even with the tuners they still do that. I think the taller the gear ratios the worse that is. Even my 07 with the Superchips with trans tuning it delayed downshifting. I think its just part of it. My 12 model still does it with BD. Did it with DS too. Did it stock too. It maaaayyyy be better with all mods, but still not as quick downshifting as it should be.

From my understanding the computer memorizes your driving habits and operates accordingly. My brother in law was a mechanic for Toyota and is a gearhead/computer guy. When I first bought my truck the response was quick at all speeds. Once I broke it in and drove it awhile the response when I wanted to mash it, took a second to respond but still comes up quick. I also have the 3.92s. Just a thought.

This is my 3rd truck in a row with the variation of the 545rfe-65rfe trans. They all take a bit to downshift and have that odd 1-2 gear ratio. While I've never had any problems with these trans other makes seem to have more responsive units.

after reading all this the only thing i would say is dont floor it and let the trans downshift by itself at highway speeds or anything above second gear thats one of the fastest way to get your tranny to give out on you....Also if youve had it for a while disconnect the battery for like 30 min to let the truck forget your driving style and then when you reconnect it drive it like you stole it

Sluggish/Hesitant Shifting/Boggy

Hello, I just joined because I found the solution to the boggy, weird, almost skippy type of operation that every dealer says is just ok. I purchased a new 2012 Sport short-bed with the hemi. It was perfect for the first 1000 miles, then developed the same issues that have been spoken about. Diablo just came out with the programmer for my vehicle about a month ago. I installed the 87, 91 and 93 octane tunes and although the power was increased, I still had the bogging shifting problems. So today I went into the 91 tune, turned off the MDS (Multi Displacement) and the bog is gone! Before it was almost like the vehicle was going into limp mode from the eco system. Hope this posting was helpful. I bought the tuner for about $400.00. I did have to update it through the USB before I originally installed it on my vehicle.

to find out your gear ratio you can call any dodge dealer and give them your vin and they can pull up your build sheet

I myself have noticed this. I bought my 13 ram hemi express about 2 months ago now and it was quick but after 1300 miles or so it seems now a little sluggish. Don't get me wrong I still love the power but its not like the day I drove it off the lot

If you are cruising in overdrive and punch it WOT the trans will shift from OD to 4th real quick then to 2nd prime (kick down gear), this takes extra time or the hesitation you speak of. 4th and 2P share clutches there is no way around it except to avoid the WOT kick downs which is sooner or later detrimental to the trans anyway.
