I'm getting a funky smell from my vents. It's occurring at idle (not moving) with the engine at temp with or without the AC on. The truck is a 2016 1500 Outdoorsman with about 3100 miles. I know this was an issue in the past with hoses and coolant but I thought it had been resolved. It smells bad (putrid) but not a...OMG I've got to get out of the truck right now or I'm going to puke kinda bad. Anyone else with a 2016 having these issues? Am I just being a pansie and this is normal break-in type smell?

Being completely serious here..

It could possibly be your feet lol...especially if you have the recirculation on.

I'm missing 2 cylinders
Mine kinda had a weird smell, and it may have been my feet, or all the fast food I eat on the way to class smell, so I just got those vanilla vent clips, made a huge difference. I am now not embarrassed to bring girls into my truck

Not sure if this is an April Fools thing or not, but I get a smell, somewhat randomly during the hotter months when using the A/C. This was also a problem in my '13 Chev Malibu so I wonder if it has something to do with all the new environmental regs on new cars and how A/C units are manufactured.

My vents smell musty when the truck is first started and the a/c or just the dash vents are on. The floor vents and defroster don't smell...just the vents. Never had another truck ever do that.

OP Please forgive some of us, I know we aren't being very helpful, my only excuse is that it's Friday and Happy Hour starts early today. I use a Bounce sheet in my truck to keep it smelling fresh. I change them out about once a month. I haven't noticed any particular odor however.

Is it a mildew type smell? My wife's car has smells like mildew sometimes and the "fix" is not to run the a/c on recirc for the last 5-10 mins. Has something to do with moisture build up, when I start noticing it I spray Lysol in the cowl where the air comes in.

there are cleaners on the market, they clean and disinfect the evaporator, also prevent mold from building up again. it gets sprayed directly in the intake of your heater box. seen this relatively often, especially after winter, where most don't use the A/C and also when the pollen season starts. A aftermarket pollen filter sometimes helps a little bit.

Before I bought my truck, I had a 2015 Ram as a rental. It was brand new, and the new car smell was way too strong, like a chemical plastic smell made me nauseous if I drove very far. I ended up buying a 2014, that was still new, but I guess had aired out enough to not have that problem.

Would the Interior Cabin filter mod do any good for this problem?

Thanks for the feedback all. I'm relatively sure it's not hookers or my feet but it could be plasticy, new car stink. I've done the lysol in the air intake trick but I think that's just masking the smell as opposed to curing it

Try taking another person in truck that has never been in it to see if they notice anything weird. I would not even mention anything, put the windows up and see if its in my head or if they notice anything. I personally love the smell of brand new.
