Hello everyone.

My extended free oil change maintenance has expired and I'm due for oil change. So from here on out I'm changing the oil myself. My question is what do you guys use ?

2013 Ram 1500 Sport 5.7
5w20
81k miles.

With over 81k miles should I go with full Synthetic ?
I collect oil from my head and refine it to use in my engine. And no matter how many times I would change it one day the minute I start the engine it will turn black as coal.

But seriously Rotella T6 10-40 works for me. I test my oil so until I get an email from the tester to change it I don't.

Man I wish we would clone whales for the lubrication, they still have yet to find anything better.

You can spend a fortune on oil but most mechanics will tell you its hard to beat mobile 1. I would suggest a quart of Lucas every oil change to keep it quiet on startups but I've never tried the lubeguard- it may be better??

I'd run a 5w30 Full Synthetic. Redline would be best, but if you don't want to spend that kind of money then look at Quaker State Synthetic or Havoline Synthetic from Walmart.

Mobil 1 full synthetic 5w-30/Fram ultra synthetic filter.Starting to think about using the liquid moly for some added protection but I need to do a little more research on it and find out where to get it.

I got off the redline train royal purp filter with 5w30 Pennzoil platinum syn truck is way better on it haven't had startup noise in 4 months even in the cold.

whatever works, sometimes the popular choice doesn't work for whatever reason and then if you get lucky a different choice will, like this. just keep trying, if anything we have proven here different oils can help different engines, so if you oil aint working for ya, by all means shop around you have nothing to loose nd much to gain.

since you asked

so there is a strategy in detailing products, it is use the product that causes the least amount of damage but gets the job done, I try and use the same thing in lubrication. you use the least aggressive then graduate to the most aggressive, this is how you preserve clear coar.

It is posted 100's of times here, two facts, liqui moly falls out of suspension and creates gunk in the sump looks like jelly, and lucas is just an oil thickner even much thicker the differential fluid. So going back to my strategy, these products would be something you use last in any lubrication strategy, not first. Both products still have their uses, but I don't see using them before trying something like lubegard.

From Moly Basics, here...

Engineers and scientists have tried for years to use Moly in motor oils but they had been unsuccessful because they could not find a way to keep Moly in suspension. Once Moly was put into suspension it would gradually settle out. It was easy to see it come out of suspension because a black sludge would collect on the bottom of the oil containers. In engines it would settle to the bottom of the crankcase or clog oil pathways and filters.

This is exactly what they were talking about, I'm not sure why we use liqui moly over biotech.

These posts were based on what many consider a high mileage vehicle. What about a Brand New truck? Is it recommended to go straight the the good stuff on first oil change? On top of that is there a recommended oil.chamge frequency for these engines for break in up till a certain mileage then move to a normal frequency?

By reading the posts here and the likes in those posts its redline 5/30 synthetic with purple filter and a bottle of lube each time?

sooner the better, the most popular used oil on the board are pennzoil synthetics. If you get hemi tick, then you might consider other options as you are under warranty and that option is not api certified.

I took care of the insufficient filter media surface area problem, lol.

Also ran this same set-up close to 40 years ago on my old 68Z when i was a kid:waytogo:
