so i have a 2002 with a 5.9. it is winter now and cold and around december my truck wouldnt start. It would crank just fine and act like it wanted to fire but wouldnt. Let it sit all day and it would start. I replaced the battery and the iac and it worked good for 2 weeks. It did the same thing again. I took it to a dodge dealership they hooked up computer and said the iac was bad. So they replaced it again and it worked fine for 2 months. now it happend again and i had it hauled down to the dealership and it sat 2 days they brought it in and said it has been starting just fine. it runs great and throws no codes. could it be a crankshaft position sensor or i am really stumped

Did they check voltage at your IAC? If theyre proper mechanics ill tell you right now thats the first thing they would do before they even think about replacing anything. A bad wire going to your IAC would throw a code for a bad IAC. They should have some pretty neat tools to find problems in wires without even tearing them apart and they could test the wires in a manner of minutes. I cant really point you in any other direction because im not that well versed in these kinds of things, but i can tell you what i said above is absolutely true. Crank sensor could cause a no start but also ****** running. And everything has been pointing at the IAC so id start there. Jostle the wires around maybe thats not a hard thing to do but is far from conclusive by any means. Good luck if it ends up back in the shop anyways tell them to test the wires and the lead going into the PCM.

thanks so much. I just got it back from the shop and they couldnt find anything wrong and its been starting great. I will definatly tell them to check the wires if it happens again, ill keep my fingeres crossed that it will be fixed now. Its just weird that when it dont start and gets towed to the shop it will start
