Hello, 2007 ram mega cab here. I occasionally have the "click" in the steering column. It's not the clock spring, turn signal switch, or anything at or near the rack/pinion or rubber boots, etc. Under there. That theory is squashed. It is clearly inside the cab behind the steering wheel. Sometimes very faint and sometimes very noticeable. It can sometimes be felt thru the wheel and around the covers in the ignition and turn signal areas. Sounds just like when applying turn signal lever or when it cancels. Quite the mystery. If anyone has had this same issue and got it resolved, I would be interested to know what the mystery is.

Are there grease fittings on those ? Or just spray with some gel wd-40 ?

Use a lubricating oil.

Nope it's not that either. It's a plastic type of click sound. In the upper column area right behind the steering wheel under the plastic covers sometimes at the ignition switch area and then sometimes in other areas under the cover. A true mystery.

I have seen vehicles that have a noise or click that sounds as though it is behind the steering wheel, but the noise is caused where the intermediate steering shaft passes through a rubber grommet in the firewall.

Some times the noise is caused because the grommet has been dislodged, other times due to lack of lubrication.

Look under the dash where the shaft passes through the grommet (you may have to remove a hush panel). Is the grommet fully seated? If so, spray the area with silicone (not any type of oil or grease which would degrade the rubber grommet).

You may want to have the engine on, and a helper move the steering wheel while you look under the dash?

Nope, not that either. Although That was a logical possibility, the Rubber boot is in tact and seated. When I moved the wheel while my head was under there, the click was definitely above my head under the covers directly behind the wheel. And sometimes it can be felt when holding the wheel and/or when putting a hand on the plastic wheel covers. Still a mystery but I will never give up till I solve it.

I think I read on here that there is a plastic gear in the steering wheel that strips out !
Try the search box using steering wheel noise or clicking sound !
If I find the thread I will update as well !
I just typed in steering wheel noise in search box and there are a lot of threads about the noise that may be your issue !
