I'm getting my new step bars Tuesday and want to have the truck ready when they get here. I see the bolts are painted over. I'm thinking the nuts will not go on smoothly with that stuff on the threads of the bolts. Will I have to remove the paint or whatever it is from the bolts to get the steps to mount properly? If I need to remove it, what would be the best way to do it?

Yes you have to remove the paint overspray.
There’s a lot of different ways to remove the paint the easiest that worked for me was with my handheld drill I attached a wire wheel brush, and just went over the whole bolt and that did the trick

That's exactly what I was figuring to do. Did you coat the now exposed threads with anything or leave them bare. I don't want rust.

Yeah it’s pretty easy even tho I stressed about it before doing it lol
And no I didn’t but yet again I’m from California and we don’t have those problem but it never hurts to coat them just for extra protection
