I remember the days when salesmen had new vehicles to drive, then they were sold as dealer demo vehicles, and when they'd let you test drive a vehicle for a few days before buying it,maybe it was because i was in a smaller farming community town, but those were the good ole days of buying a vehicle.
I remember having to talk fast to get a 3 year loan to buy a new vehicle,as most were 2 year loans.
Tells you how much vehicles have gone up in relation to wages

Wife and I were looking for a vehicle back in 2000. We weren't sure what our credit situation was, so we went to our credit union and told them we were in the market for a car, wanted to see our options.

They ran our credit, and gave us a voucher for $25K, said when we found a vehicle, write in the VIN, price, and sign it. If we used the full amount, our payments would be $450/month for 72 months. Easy-peasy.

We actually went to a local Dodge dealer because we wanted a 2001 Ram 1500, V8, stick, with cruise control.

We look at some trucks and the stickers, and go sit down with a salesman. I say "Give us an out the door price." He says he has to run our credit. I say, "Nope." He says, "Why not?" I say, "You give us a price, I write down the price and info on this voucher, sign it and that truck is ours."

He asks to see the voucher, and walks out of the room with it. Wife and I are dumbfounded. Salesman comes back with a bunch of papers, sets them on the desk, and walks out again.

Wife rifles through the papers, finds our voucher, and puts it in her purse. Salesman comes back in a couple minutes later, rifles through the papers as if looking for something. He NEVER SAYS A WORD, walks back out. Wife and I are looking at each other like, "WTF?" We end up leaving and going to the local Saturn dealer and getting something there, because we figured we needed not to use almost the full amount.

That was a whole 'nother experience, but not because of the voucher.

I absolutdly despise the dealer games.
I had a salesman actually "lose" the keys to my trade, once when negotiations went south. I wasn't going to buy because he and the manager were schmucks. After about 30 minutes of bugging the $hit out of him for my keys, and him STILL playing the "we lost them" card, I grabbed my cell in front of him, dialed "911" and reported my car stolen by conversion at this dealer.
That Bozo pulled the keys out of his pocket, claimed he forgot he had them, and handed them to me REAL fast.
That dealer went out of business a couple of years later after a TV consumer investigative reporter put out on the air the shenanigans they had pulled on customers... There were hundreds of complaints to the Automotive Dealer's Association, the State's Attorney General, the BBB, and so forth.

Another story, not really stupid but I found it rather amusing. Back in 2011 I was planning on buying a new Camaro. The wife and I get to the dealership and we're getting ready for the test drive and the sales guy, who had to be about 20 years older than me and obviously southern born and raised based on his deep accent, gets this sheepish look on his face and says "I need to go get someone to move this because it's a manual". Took him 10 minutes to find someone who worked there that knew how to drive a stick. I was absolutely floored by that and even the wife had a hard time stifling here laughter at how ridiculous that was.

Just to add about my long post earlier. I said I was looking at a 1997 and the dealer changed their mind on the extra $500. Forgot to mention that I had went back to another dealer that I had been to a few days earlier. They had a 1994 F250. I ended up buying that but I was paying cash. I think I owed them about $17,000 but it would take me a few days to get the money. They let me take the truck that day and come back about a week later with the balance.
Another story. A former co-worker went to buy a new F150 back around 1999. He was about 19 but we were working in a steel mill with pretty much unlimited OT. He banked all his money away for about a year. He went to the dealer one night after banks were closed and found a truck. Salesman asked him how much he was putting down. Don said 15. Guy punches some numbers and tells him his payment. Don asked why so high. Guy says well 1500 isn't that much. Don said no, $15,000. Then the guy wouldn't let him take the truck that night as banks were closed. He told them if I don't take it tonight I'm going to a different dealer so they let him take it.
In 1989 my mother had a 1981 Buick Riviera. Great car but she woke up that morning for work and it wouldn't start. She asked me to go car shopping with her. Finds a brand new 1989 Olds Calais quad 4 5 spd. Her Buick is still sitting at home in the driveway. They made her an offer on it sight unseen and let her take the new car home with her that day. Oddly that dealership was right across the street from where I bought the F150.
Back around 1995 me and my wife went to look at an almost new Suburban. Dealer asked what we wanted our payments to be before we even looked at it. I told him I wanted to drive it first, etc. He said their policy was that I had to sign a paper agreeing if they got the payment to where I stated then I was required to buy the vehicle. This was before I could even drive it. I walked out the door.
I had a 1990 Olds Calais with the Quad4. That was a snappy car. Had a bunch of issues wih the ignition module/coil circuits that they ingeniously mounted right on top of the hot engine...lol.

Other than that, I really liked that car.

GM eventually figured the coil problem out.... it was the harmonic balancer causing a static charge from the serpentine belt, and it jumping a powerful spark across the rubber insulator to the hub, thus to ground. Inasmuch as the ignition module was part of the coil assembly, that powerful spark would zap the module. The cure? issue a TSB to replace the harmonic balancer with an updated part, which had a ground shunt wire bridge across the outer belt pulley and the hub.

When I bought my new 2005 SLT (which I still have), the salesman was great; no credit check, no ID, and he let me drive any truck I wanted without him--even the SRT10. We agreed on a price, and was sent to the finance guy for the paperwork. His "calculations" came up to a price that was ~$200 more than what was agreed upon. I told him I'm paying the original agreed-upon price, or I'm walking. He said, "You'd walk out for only $200?" I said I would indeed. Somehow, the extra $200 disappeared off the contract.

When I bought my 2018 Sport, the deal was made through the internet, as the dealer was 4 hours away. Having all the numbers in writing, a friend and I drove to get the truck. Similar scenario as before, except the finance guy inflated the final numbers by several thousand dollars. He said something about the sales tax not being added. I told him I wanted the original deal, or I'm leaving. He asked, "You'd leave after a 4-hour trip to get here, and then drive another 4 hours back without anything?" Again, I said I would leave if I didn't get my deal. The original price was finally honored.

Read Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. I read it quite a few years ago, it was actually is pretty insightful.

"Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus" is a book by John Gray that explores the psychological differences between men and women, suggesting that many relationship issues arise from these differences. The book uses the metaphor of men being from Mars and women from Venus to illustrate how each gender has distinct ways of communicating and responding to stress.

Last 2 new vehicles Mark Dodge in Louisiana.

Ordering took more time to get the vehicle to my specifics, than to do paperwork, delivery or anything combined.

I fly in, they pick me up, hand me my keys, we talk for a few minute, I leave. Great process, reasonable prices, not a bunch of BS.

Women need to read "The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands" by Dr. Laura Schlessinger. It tells women just what simple creatures we are, and that we only need a few basic things to be happy and fulfilled.

51 years for us. Amazing how few people I know that are still with their first spouse. Lots on the second or 3rd, a few are on their 4th, one on his 6th.
Congrats to you all.

Wife and I hit 30 on July 1st.

I have no clue why she hasn't offed me yet.....lol

You have more patience then me,as i got about a dozen pages into it,and was bored as hell :Big Laugh:
I'm pretty sure the wife still has it laying around somewhere:rolleyes:
I read the entire book and found it interesting but not totally realistic. The real value of the author's work is only possible if both genders take it seriously.
