Any of you trying the new Valvoline Restore and Protect in your w*h*i*z mobiles?

It claims to be the latest and greatest PUP in terms of cleaning piston rings, which is important for hot, higher stressed engines like the little 4 cylinder GDI turbos.

Back 10 years ago, PUP's claim to fame was with GTL base oil being a Group III+ saturated oil, nearly a PAO, and spiking with a bunch more detergent. I remember their advertising the Sequence IIIH piston ring lands much cleaner than with Mobil 1.

Valvoline Restore and Protect also claims low wear. Lake Speed Jr. made a couple of YouTube videos about it, his initial cursory testing validated the varnish deposit cleanup on his wife's Toyota engine dipstick.

Lots of promise for slow cleaning, esters? Like autorx from the old days?

Esters aren't great at wear reduction, though, the video showed this stuff better than Red Line.
It's one of those old Mobil Synergy recipes that isn't defined by any single ingredient.
Not worried about Hemi, we know what to do with these engines.

I have not tried VR & P in my GDI turbo 4 banger as I am still working through my stash of PUP. I also don't know yet if my particular engine is a fuel diluter or not; will be doing a UOA in a couple of months (about 4K miles by then) to determine this.

If it is a diluter, I will probably stick to PUP or other ots oil like VR & P and change every 4-5K miles. If it is not a significant diluter, I will probably switch to HPL and extend the oci's out to 7-8K, maybe even a bit more.

Cool beans. Just for fun, I tossed a message to David Stoiber of HPL about this to see what he says about pressurized mouse motor oil.

In the meantime, the Hemi got an engine bath today with OG Red Line 0W-30 in a balmy 14 degrees F with a howling wind. Just another spring day in the garden spot of the world. Plus 1st use of Fram Endurance Oil Filter - FE10575.

I'm currently running R&P in my daily with an Amsoil filter. I tried it a while back with a WixXP filter and it had a nasty startup rattle. Me being me I decided to give it another chance with an Amsoil filter this time and its been fine for 1500 miles.

I have another 5 qt jug of the R&P for it so I'll definitely be running it at least one more change. I bought it with 83k on the clock and it was serviced every 5k with bulk oil before I got it so I figured a good slow cleaning with R&R would be a good idea. It runs great on it too.

Can't beat the price either, $30 + the cost of an Amsoil filter. Might even try it in the wife's Jeep.

Which HPL oil is the alternative to redline 0w30 or 5w30?

What is R&R oil? Who makes it.

@HEMIMANN & @Hemi395

Thanks

Super Car 0W-30 all year. I did all the spec comparisons and corresponded with HPL. It's the clear choice for Hemi. I plan to run when my stock of Red Line is gone in about a year.

Looking @ R&P specs, despite their claims of recipe synergistic effects in cleaning, the cold temp CCS viscosity is as high as Red Line for 5W-30, leading me to deduce the recipe is high ester base oil. That explains some of the high cleanliness and the rattle you're still getting. Also more expensive than PUP but not as expensive as Red Line, so concentration maybe in-between.

Gunked up filter 500 miles, which was why he recommended 300 miles first filter change.
