Today some brain cells came back to life when I was pre-lubing the Hemi and I looked at the oil pressure gauge while doing it.

I crank in app. 10 second bursts, twice, resting 10 secs inbetween so as not to fry starter motor.

Lo and behold, the gauge needle jumps up to pressure ~ halfway thru the 2nd crank cycle. Where the oil pressure sensor is located on these engines gets oil after ~ 15 seconds of cranking.

At least some proof that the pre-lube via cranking method works!

Now time for @Wild one to lambast me for being too lazy to install a true hydrostatic pre-lube system in 3, 2, 1...GO!

I'm not a huge fan of cranking them to build pressure, but if it works for you carry on Brian :waytogo:
Couple old engine builders have told me,they prefer to let the engine fire up and build oil pressure faster then cranking it over on the starter for 20 seconds to build pressure, but you're to old to convince otherwise:Big Laugh:

With redline 5w30 in my 6.4 I can go at least 14 days with it sitting without cold start clatter. Just a quick rev up to 1500 rpm every time before shutting it off is all it takes.

Brings up the question of how this formulation works. Esters are polar molecules and cling to metal surfaces, but a member that looked at some parts not too long after shutting down said parts seemed dry.
IDK

When Dave Granlund was @ Red Line, he implied their oil has substantially more ester base oil than that needed to hold additives in suspension (~10%), but of course wouldn't divulge the number. He also said the rest of the base oil was Group IV PAO.

Does the high ester base oil matter somehow for wear? Who knows?
Ester is typically applied in very hot machine elements like jet engine bearings. An expensive lubricant.

dimming the sun :)

Buy stock in jacket makers fellas even manu's who make 0w8 oils, the UK is going to dim the sun, lol. The working theory is it would only cost 100 bil to do this, put so much sulfur outside the atmosphere it would lower temps. The cost to lower with what we currently are doing - 1,000 trillion to 2,000 trillion dollars. By the time we figure this out, of course the ground will be out of oil anyhow, but whatever. Where is James Bond when you need him?

I for one think this is a bad idea. Having driven all over the country with our camper, all the truck drivers I've encountered have been amazing at what they do. They are true professional drivers. I learned quickly that when they slow down I should slow down. There is a good reason they are slowing down. Sometimes it's something way ahead they saw or sometimes its just the wind picked up and they're slowing down out of caution. Either way I've found they know about potential hazards before the rest of us drivers are aware of them. And they have to be aware of the idiot drivers that don't understand you cant stop a fully loaded truck on a dime. That takes training and skill.

I've also had a truck driver stop traffic with his rig so I could back the camper out of a wrong turn I took years ago. Would an automated truck do that?

Plus its taking jobs away from people.
I saw something so impressive today, everytime I see it I am amazed on how they can get away with this. A double heaping over with 3/4 inch gravel. Dudes was ******* me off doing like 5-10 mph so I'm like wtf buddy, and looked up and see hills of 3/4 inch rock. I have no earthly idea how much that weighs, but it has to be at the limit of suspension and walls on the trailer. I cant imagine that isn't over the limit of 80k, I mean right? If I had a guess, 120k pounds? Mind you I think they are exempt from federal law as the quarry is close to this site and it doesn't hit the interstate system. I wonder if they have a special permit or something, but whatever, in Texas soon you are gonna have trucks like this with no driver? what could possibly go wrong, lol. This driver had a ton of sense crawling on a 35mph road.

Beware of logging trucks on back highways. Up here they load em over 100k.

They'd steamroll us like a gnat on a whale's a$$. No inattentive driving in woods beast country

1. Ditch 5w20 and stick to 5W30 or 0W40, regardless of where you are.
2. Choose a good brand oil that is reputed. Don't go for anything that isn't well known.
3. Depending on your budget and the mileage you cover, consider switching to a 3000 mile oil change interval.
4. If your budget can hold it and you can get Redline 5w30, get it and then and only then would I suggest keeping the OCI (oil change interval) to 5000 miles / 10,000 kms.
Oil recommendations:
For change intervals every 5000 kms / 3000 miles:
- Valvoline Advanced 5w30
- Havoline Pro DS 5w30
- Liquimoly Molygen 5w30
- Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w30 / 0w40
- Castrol Magnatec 5w30
- Castrol Edge 5w30 / 0w40

With any of these choices, you can add the following additives if you wish - especially if you plan on keeping the oil change for 10,000 / 5000 miles. **
- Lubegard Biotech
- Liquimoly MoS2
- Liquimoly Hydraulic Lifter Fluid

For change intervals every 10,000 kms / 5000 miles:
- Redline High Performance 5w30
- HPL 5w30
- Mobil 1 FS Euro 0w40
- Royal Purple 5w30
- Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w30 / 0w40
- Castrol Edge 5w30 / 0w40

** Redline and HPL are the only oils within this range that you don't need and should not to use any additives on.

** If your engine currently has a Hemi lifter tick, you will need to use either
- Redline 5w30 / 0w40 OR
- Any other oil with Lubegard Biotech
This will not remove the tick completely, but will certainly lubricate the engine better and quieten the ticking to a level where you won't hear it.
would you recommended this while the vehicle is still under warranty coverage or stick to factory recommended oil weight until the vehicle is out of the warranty period. on a 2024 the manual straight up says only 0w-20 is recommended.

Log Trucks Yield To No One, as learned in the Maine woods.

Well, we just got home. Aside from some traffic jams and electrical gremlins, it was a good trip back.

So we left at 4:30 this morning to head home. I hit Tow/Haul like I always do and drove for about 20 mins before we hit a gas station. Filled up, got back in the truck, went to hit Tow/Haul and the whole center switch unit with the heated seats, vsc, and TH was completely dark. NONE of the buttons worked. 4WD dial was dark too. I looked at my wife and said "fine fu kn time for this to break." Thankfully the trailer brake controller worked or that would've been not good. So for the next 150 miles or so I shifted it manually and had the wife go over the fuses with me in the owners manual as I drove. Got to the next gas station and my wife mentioned that we have a 12V fridge in the camper now and that could've pulled the truck battery down while I was getting gas. For sh its and giggles I unplugged the trailer plug from the truck and filled up. Started the truck up again and everything worked. Plugged the trailer plug back in, everything still works. @Burla pointed out my battery is 3 years old so IDK that could be it but I've never had these kinds of problems with the truck ever.

Anyways, gonna go back with RL 5w30 as soon as I order some to replace my back stock. Hoping Summit or Jegs has it in stock again...

@Hemi395 I just checked Amazon and Red Line sites, 5w-30 is in stock at both.
It's actually about $1-2 cheaper at Red Line but shipping might kill that "deal".

Just in case Summit or JEGS are out.

EDIT: Red Line wants $15 for shipping 8 quarts.

EDIT 2: Both Summit and JEGS show RL 5w-30 in stock, same price as Red Line
at $16.97/quart. Amazon is $18.60 with "free" shipping.

Pretty Cool imo, mind you I love the way they are going about this, not so much the vehicle itself, but why not for a grocery getter a good or fun choice. So the concept is take out everything possible and have a bare bones truck, oh man I yearn for someone to do this with a full size. But it's a start. Bezos backed 20k EV truck, I give you the soon to be available SLATE. 1/5 the price of the cyber truck but looks better, lol. Clearly the bronco inspired design. I wouldn't buy one, no way I'd even fit, but I have some appreciation for out the box thinking.

The Slate Auto is a new electric vehicle (EV) startup backed by Jeff Bezos, aiming to offer a simple, affordable, and highly customizable electric pickup truck. The vehicle is expected to cost under $20,000 after federal EV tax credits. It features a modular design, allowing buyers to transform it from a two-seater pickup to a five-seat SUV

Well how about the new $3500 Chinese Ram?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8afNJTCG9z0

"We got our hands on a $3,500 Chinese Dodge Ram… and let’s just say, things got interesting.
In this video, we unbox a budget-friendly, knockoff Dodge Ram straight from China and put it head-to-head against a real Dodge Ram in a side-by-side comparison.
From build quality to design, we break down every detail to see just how close (or far) this truck is from the real deal.
Then, we take both trucks out for a series of extreme tests:
✅ Payload Test – How much weight can each truck handle before things go south?
✅ Torque Challenge – We put them to the test to see which one has the real muscle.
✅ Towing Battle – Can the $3,500 Chinese truck actually pull its weight?

Will the budget-friendly knockoff surprise us, or will it crumble under pressure? Watch until the end to find out!

Alibaba sells 2022 used trx Japan and Germany vehicle because of their emissions, used for 13k plus shipping, if you have enough balls to do it. That truck is 85k used here, lol.
