I just bought a new 2018 Big Horn. It has 262 mile on it. I noticed this morning while starting cold after about 36 hours a tap thatwent away after about 2 seconds. I checked the oil and it is filled right to the fill mark. Does anyone know what this could be. Im very upset. Havent brought in to dealer yet. Can anyone help

I chased that noise for about a year, maybe a little more. Amsoil, M1, and redline all took care of it, several have had good luck with PUP, I never tried PUP but mine didn't like PP at all.

Is this normal ? Should I switch to Synthetic after break in ?

Thats what I did, I went to 5w30 RedLine oil, I did not have any noise and did not want any to start and RL has a good track record of making the 5.7 Hemi quiet and run smooth.

Some of these Hemis are funny about the oil they like.

Amsoil and m1ep in the 20wt both ran really well but I wanted to go to a 30wt and they both made my engine feel sluggish. Redline 5/30 was the one that did the trick, quiet, smooth, and runs like I think it should. For whatever reason the MDS is also much smoother with redline.

HIGHLY recommend full synthetic Redline 5w30 and a RP 20-820 filter for any ticking or knocking noises, except exhaust manifold ticking...

You may wish to research the oil you decide on. Some of the synthetics don't meet FCA specs and could possibly void any warranty claims. I think it's ridiculous but one of the Mobile syn's is just such an oil.
I had that 2 second tick show up a couple times a month. Just did my first oil chg with synthetic. Doubt I'll hear it again.

Number of times a manufacturer denied a claim against using m1 oil?

Here is a chart that shows how thin oil gets at 270, you can see how far it drops from operating temps around 212 and 270. Just going up to 5w30 can really protect an engine when towing. Going to ester based 5w30 even better.

I don't know. Look it up. But if it's only once and it happens to be you, it matters. Fact is some oils meet mfg specs and some don't. Not sure why anyone would knowingly use one that doesn't make the grade but to each his own.

What I find more surprising is some "high end" oils have failed to keep up with changing mfg specifications yet are still on the market. No doubt many loyal consumers are unaware their oil is not up to snuff as far as the mfg is concerned. Sure it's still good oil but it's also a potentially expensive oversight.

You mean to meet the manufacturers minimum requirements.
Many oils are way better than what the manufacturers requirements for a stamp on a quart jug are.
Some do not care about getting that stamp on a bottle and just make better oil then most others.

The only way a manufacturer can deny a claim under magnuson moss is if they can prove the oil caused the damage, or the consumer fails to fight the decision. The process to fight a warranty claim is very easy and the cost is astronomical to the dealer. I know because I won one, 13k and I was able to keep the truck because they refused to attempt to fix it under warranty.

Anyhow, it is spreading fear and nonsense to think a mani will deny coverage for using m1. I will say with di turbo's you should use a spec oil because for the first time mani's can prove a non low calcium oil caused the issue, but if you have a hemi you should use whatever your research shows you is a good oil. The manufacturer risks punitive action by the courts if the unlawfully deny a warranty claim under magnuson moss, 99% of these cases settle because they do not want to see the judge. If you are the type to operate with fear, then behave accordingly. If you don't want other people to tell you how to take care of your equipment, then don't the law is on your side.

Cute thinking that because high end oils don't cert the spec that they can't meet the spec, lol. Sell that one somewhere else.

No need to get the fur up and no, I'm not spreading fear. Never said you'd end up in court or fighting for your claim but no doubt it could happen. "Could" is the word I used. If that's fear mongering I apologize. Weigh the facts and weedout the opinion and make a choice. Lots of opinion in oil discussions.

Now, I've used that oil in nearly everything I've run for years. Surely good stuff but I choose to put something else in the Hemi. Too many good syn's out there that meet those FCA specifications (according to FCA anyway) for me to choose one that doesn't or has yet to prove it. My shop of choice carries 2. Easy.

I had a similar tick last week. Its been 90 plus with a heat index of 108. I too checked my oil and it was right at fill line. Topped it off and tick went away the next day
