I have been leaning towards manifold leak/broken studs the whole time. I told the service manager this several times... and he refuses to consider it as an option.. I don't even think they checked them.. According to him, that was only back in 2009... and he says sense I have a 2014 is is not likely.. and that the sound is not consistant enough.. I havent' picked up the truck yet.. Tomorrow when I do I will ask if they even looked.

I'm telling you, I'm dealing with possibly the worst Dodge/Ram/Chrysler serivce department in the country right now..

I've had this noise too. I never did take it in for it though. It's out of warranty now being over 3 yrs old and at 31k miles. Power train warranty would cover any component in the engine??

Wow this sounds a lot like mine at 13k. I've brought mine in 3 times and was told its "normal Hemi noise" all 3 times.

I figure that would be the answer is get if I ever dropped it off. It runs good so far. I guess if I ever have the time I'll drop it off.

I thought the warranty was 5 years 100,000 miles?
Bumper to bumper is 3 year/36000 miles. The power train warranty is 5 years/100000 miles. Not sure what is really covered under power train but I would guess engine, trans, and rear axle.
Problem is most dealers won't touch anything unless it's falling off the truck or there's a check engine light.

Got my truck back after they replaced the belt up front and the tensioner. I honestly have no idea why they replaced these. After starting the truck the last few days I took the time to chase the sound. It is 100% coming from the lower back part of the motor maybe bear the manifolds. I can not see the studs though. Replacing the belt did nothing and makes absolutely no sense. The guy refuses to check the studs. Is it that large of a job that they are purposely avoiding it? Time to give chrystler a call and find a new dealership.

To find a broken bolt, you just need to pull on the heat shield. If it moves, it's broken. Mine is on the passenger side. But yeah, find another dealer. That's compete ******** they won't even look.

on the move..

After watching your videos and after having both sides done on my truck, your truck is not making the manifold noise.
I do however get the same noise as you have after an oil change and it sounds like it's coming from the bell housing.

Mine comes from the bell housing area too. Almost like its the converter or trans pump. Maybe even rod knock.

So assuming its from the bell housing area, isn't that something that would want to be addressed asap? I mean what good is a warranty for anyways if the mechanics "can't figure it out" ...
I have a feeling this is going to be like pulling teeth to get this issue resolved.. Not that it already hasn't been. I'm going to go to a different dealer 45 min away, and I'm going to tell them where the noise seems to be coming from. And hope that they are decent enough to figure it out. I was planning on paying off this truck and keeping it long term.. this is starting to worry me though.

I have a 2014 with 26k and the videos you posted is EXACTLY what I here on cold start ups...any progress made? I'm not to worried to be honest since this seems to be so common and I have a warranty and a very good dealer but I can't loose my truck while they look at it, any updates? I'm going to go take the shields off and look at the bolts now

Well it's 105 out and I'm in the driveway so conditions are poor but I was able to get the passenger side shield off and all bolts look perfect, I will have to check the driver side another time, but the driver side shield is completely tight by hand so I'm thinking their good too.

I listened to my buddies 13 Laramie and it sounds exactly the same on cold start as that video. Maybe it's a quirky Hemi thing?

Unfortunately most dealership "mechanics" are just "part replacers" nowadays. They aren't like they used to be 20-30 years ago....you know, actually mechanics.

Update.. .I am in the middle of moving to Texas from Indiana. I am going to wait until I get down there and have a dealer take a look when all the moving is complete. Looks like there is a decent dealership 10 minutes from my new place down there.. She still does it the same everyday...

*Side note.. there were a few times on the 1,000 mile drive down where I went to pass a semi truck (going from a consistent speed to slight acceleration) where the transmission seemed to over-aggressively down shift and was very loud and made a thud.. not sure what to make of it. Or if it has anything at all to do with the noise, or if its anything to worry about.. but it definitely seemed like something to take note of..

Wow I've been watching this thread grow over the past few weeks and finally read most of it and listened to your video and it is so obvious something is wrong. Can't believe you took that to the stelership and they don't know what's wrong with it. Not that I do but I'm not a mechanic, but it's plain as day something is wrong.

I had a very similar noise, turned out to be a failed lifter... the roller tip seized up and took out the cam... it was a distinctive tap like that at the front part of the driverside... would be there at start up make a little rattle or tap then go away... was like that for about 4k before it finally failed and made other issues present... took 2 dealer ships and multiple trips before the one dealership figured it out and fixed it... just something to think about.. go get a $10 needle stethoscope from autozone or where ever and poke around with it and you will hear better where the sound is coming from to better figure it out.

Well, I have new news.

I'm 2500 miles into my second treatment of Liqui Moly MOS2 oil additive. My noise is now gone.

I use Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic 5w-20 oil and a Wix filter. I change my oil every 5,000 miles.

I read a lot about this product on bob is the oil guy forums. Seems to be one additive that isn't snake oil. Sounds like it's working now for me.

I purchase it at Napa for five bucks and change. Not on the shelf usually, so I call them in the morning and it arrives at the store that afternoon. I add the entire can.

Well finally brought mine in for this and I feel my dealership is pretty good and I got a call back saying tech heard it and the problem was a loose rocker arm bolt...I'm guessing it was just slightly out of spec, as once warmed up, things tightened up and the sound went away... Their keeping again tonight to make it problems fixed but I'm just so glad they heard it and know it's wrong unlike some of the horror stories I read on here

Update-sound was gone when retesting this morning!

This is fairly common tech said and there's a bulletin out on it, I can get the number if anyone wants it
