So I'm thinking of changing out my gearing because from what I can gather from my truck speed going down the highway vs. the engine RPM, as long as my TC is locked up, it looks like I have 3.21 gearing. (At ~80 mph I'm running ~2000 rpm). From what I've found with Google the gearing options were 3.21 and 3.92 from the factory. I'm guessing I'll probably go with the 3.92's because it won't affect my mileage much and I'll get the benefit of a better gear.

I'm just curious how I can be sure my TC is locked up when I'm riding down the highway. The trans is very smooth. If I'm cruising 80 mph with the cruise control on, would it be pretty safe to assume the TC is locked up?

Edit: Also, does anyone know what the rear end is in these trucks? Is it the 9.25?

Nevermind. I found the sticker under the driver side axle. I've got 3.55's.

Anyone know about the type of axle? Which ring and pinion do I order if I want to go to 4.10's?

You have a 9.25ZF. We have the OEM 3.92 and 4.10 gears in stock. If you are a 6sp, then I would definitely go straight to the 4.10 instead of the 3.92. I dont think you will feel enough of a gain to justify the cost by only switching to 3.92's.

I'm checking for install pricing with two local shops. If they are decent I'll have the gears done by them. I just ordered the DiabloSport i2 from you though.

Local shop wants $600 labor to install gears. Is it me or does that seem a little steep?

That's high. Shop labor around here is $350-$400 for a rear axle.

Hemi450hp, how long does it take you to do the gear change? Conroe is 2.5 hours from me.

Send a PM to thad8403 on here. He is in LA, and has done numerous installs for our customers over there. He does it on the side, so his pricing is better than any shop is going to charge, and he is also available to help on weekends.

Done, and thanks for the help. Hopefully I'll hear from him soon.

You might want to install a limited slip diff while your doing gears or else the PCM will just pull power if one wheel start to spin. I went with 4.10 gears and sometimes wish I would have gone with 4.56 but it was a big improvement from the 3.35s that came on the truck. I paid about 350 for the labor.

I already have a limited slip. With the cost of getting gears installed I'm a little apprehensive about doing it just to go from 3.55's to a 4.10. Then again I'm afraid if I go 4.56's then that might be too much gear and I'll kill my mpg.

3.55 to 4.10 is a very noticeable increase while at the same time keeping relatively good mileage with normal driving. I've run 4.56's on both of my 2011 Rams, and the mileage really isnt as bad as some would think. For the sake of keeping a quiet factory gear and a great balance of performance and comfort, the OEM 4.10's are the perfect fit.

Ok. Well I talked to Thad and he's further away from me than you are. I found a local hot rod shop that said they'll do the install for between $400-$450. I'm going to stop by and talk to them/check out the shop tomorrow. If it all seems good I'll get a set of gears on the way from you soon.
