The biggest thing I tow is my 2020 2dr General on a 12' single trailer.
My 1500 Laramie does just fine.
I still want a P.W. for the awesomeness...

Thanks. I would add a couple of items to that. But you still got that for under 50K? Sounds like I need to call up a dealer and have a chit chat with them.
he said 53K not 50K..covid has changed things. supply and demand. plants shut down and dealer lots pretty sparse.

87 is fine. Unless you are working it hard in the heat. Then 89 might be needed.

I use my 6.4l hard and almost always just run 87

87 is required. 89 is recommended

Must have been a change in MYs 15 to 16, in my OM it says, "89 Octane Recommended - 87 Octane Acceptable, 0-15% Ethanol." I run on recommended grade.

You will complain about msds “eco” mode if you don’t run at least mid grade due to vibrations from the retard timing.
I have never once noticed vibrations in msds and mine is in eco mode often. I get great mpg so it must be working correctly.2EC96563-CEE3-4AB1-81A5-636BB77D674B_1_201_a.jpeg

The 8 spd has helped in this regard. This subject has been talked about more then tires ( yes that much) on this forum. and the dampers work well for the first 36k. Put some miles on your truck. Or 35s and run a whole tank of reg. Check out my thread “PW in the Smoky Mountains “ I just rolled 30k on this one 20k on the red one and 130k on my 2011.

That is what I said. Lol. Except I said requiired instead of acceptable.

87 is acceptable. 89 is recommended. Premium offers no benefit and is suggested not to be used.

The only time I have found any benefit of 89 is in august while towing. I ran 89 for awhile. Then used 90 non ethanol. Then I used just 87.

In the winter i use 87. Winter fuel sucks. No use spending more money.

In July and August I use 89 on our longer camping trips. But i used 87 on the second trip July and had no change in mileage or power.

But...my truck has 143k on it now and I just do not feel like spending anymore money on gas than I have to

Why is premium not recommended? Silly me, that's all I use since I don't pay for my fuel.
People misunderstand what “premium” means. It’s not a higher quality of fuel. It just has a different octane rating. An engine will not run “better” on a grade of fuel higher than what it is designed for, but it will run poorly if too low of a grade is used.

With some adjustments to your timing, mass air flow, ported injectors and a little reprogram, you could run premium. Won’t get the HP the srt is getting but it would be measurable. But 93 octane on a stock 6.4 won’t do a noticeable difference (possibly not even a dyno difference) at the crank.

Final price was $47k after the rebates. They threw in a $1250 protection plan on the paint, interior and undercoating.

Running a higher octane fuel than necessary does nothing but waste money. An engine will not run any better. Without getting into combustion theory the basics are that octane is a resistance to ignition. Pre-ignition, or detonation, kills an engine and higher octane will help prevent that but if your engine does not detonate on 89 octane the 93 octane will run no differently
