I did get complete kits, could have reused all bearings, as truck only had 37.5k on it. Did use new pinion bearings and some shims, only problem was kit had wrong pinion seal in it, way to small o.d. Checked federated auto parts they said they had it, went to get it and it was the same as what was in kit, checked NAPA and they don't even have a listing, so be sure on your pinion seal. Depending on your mileage bearings would probably be ok, unless big pinion brg gets damaged changing it, you will need shims I'm sure.

Thanks for the information. I really appreciate your time and write-ups. I'm right at 36.7k on my truck.

the 1/2 ton guys dont know what they are missing. I made a small step up in tire size last year from the stock 33" tall tires to 35"tall toyo M/T's and i am amazed at how these big trucks just swallow up big ditches on the side of the road that a half ton would quiver at. (Stock suspention on both)

And my truck is a crew cab, long bed SRW 3500. You guys with the coil spring 2500's and 6foot boxes would even put mine to shame.

4x4 low on these things is amazingly powerful

I've got the same issue. They're saying it's the lifters , but by the time they get it from the parking lot to shop the tick is gone. Only last about 20-30 seconds. They need the "tick" to last longer so they have time to get the heads taken off to identify which lifter is causing the problem. They said it has to get worse before they can fix it. That doesn't sit well with me because I want it fixed. Some guys on the forums are saying to change your oil to royal purple and that will take care of it. So my next oil change I may give it a shot .

You reading wrong. I have a SQUEAK. but since you have a start up tick....try visiting the synthetic oil thread. Redline oil will cure your problem. It cured my startup tick and may others true "hemi tick"

Seriously. Stop by

The dealer found that the squeak on my 6.4 was coming from the idler pulley. They also had another 6.4 in there with the same squeak also coming from the idler pulley. They said these were not the only two they've encountered with this issue.

Just waiting on the part to get there tomorrow as well as my new engine block heater ..:happy107:

New to the forum, 2015 6.4 2500. Came over from CTD land, 1999 24 valve 2500.

Mine has 4x4 shift on the floor. That damn lever or leather boot is so noisy! Anyone else have this issue and a fix for it? Foam shims? Lots of white lithium? Leather treatment?

Thanks,
Tim

Do you mean the leather is squeaky when you shift into four-wheel-drive?

Never had that issue

If so just use any interior protectant that is somewhat glossy and it will go away.

Yes and the dealer refuses to fix it.

Find a similar Truck at Dennis Dillon, and get a quote. Be willing to walk if you don’t get that price. I would also hold out for 4.10s.

Anything over 35K for one of these 6.4 HD trucks is way too much. I understand all the bells and whistles and features you can load up with, but that goes against a HUGE negative in drivetrain, Ie the Tranny gearing and general lackluster performance while towing. I would certainly look at a diesel if I were in the 48K range..
