Gotta get some miles on that 6.4L....it does get better but I doubt you'll ever see CTD mileage. This gasser is a whole 'nother type of animal.

Just got my Power Wagon 6.4 w/4.10 and I am only getting 10.7 mpg but only 250 miles. hope it gets a little better. I only got 12.6 on my 6.7 CTD.

I have a 2015 Power Wagon 6.4/4.10s and I average about 12.5. I can get 15.5 on the interstate and around 11 in the city if I drive it easy. Also I have 37x12.50s on it so you should see a little better.

Tankfarmer, if you don't mind, what kind of lift are you running? Also what size wheels and backspacing? Thx.

Anybody know if there is a way to get the PCM part number without having to go under the hood. Not anywhere near my truck right now.... Thanks!

Just started the truck at my 'rents. A second or so of ticking then it went away. I'm going to let it sit overnight and see if it does it again.

So after reading a lot of this, I cant seem to find an exact answer...

New 2015 PW owner with 2500 miles on it now.

I know oil is synthetic and 0w40 but can I use any synthetic, Pennzoil, Castrol, Valvoline, Mobil1, RP, Amsoil, etc...
or is the consensus still just Pennzoil Ultra only?

Are the non Pennzoil brands all now certified or getting soon the Chrysler MS 12633 certification?

Do I really truly need a Chrysler MS 12633 approved synthetic or as long as its a synthetic and 0w40 I should be good to go?

I recently changed my oil and used amsoil 0w40 signature series with no issues

The main thing with MS-12633 0W-40 oil is that is has 2-3 times more molybdenum than the other oils.

As to "truly need", using the proper spec oil under warranty make it one less point for the dealership to attempt to deny a warranty claim if you had an internal engine issue related to lubricated parts.

With this being said have people been denied warranty claims due to oil used? Are the dealers asking to see receipts for oil purchased or shop receipts with oil used?

I don't think anyone on here has had an engine replaced that wasn't the wrist pin issue so it is unknown if it will happen. My theory is why chance it, people on here run 89 or higher octane just because they feel it is "better" for their truck even if the owners manual says it isn't required yet refuse to run the required oil for the engine just because? It isn't like they are requiring you to run a crappy oil, penzoil platinum is one of the best oils out there. I get the point of hating being told what you can and cannot run for oil but it isn't hard to order the correct oil off of Amazon and change it.

Listen, there has been much bandwidth wasted arguing over if this or that oil outside the MS-12633 can be used but at the end of the day, are you will to assume the financial risk if the dealership and Chrysler corporate push back on this?

Below is a link to a thread I posted where one of the chief RAM engineers said that 0W-40 is not required and that actually all durability testing was done with non-synthetic 5W-30. But still, 0W-40 is what made it into the owners manual. In the end, some video is not going to make a good argument when the actual published data in the owners manual "recommends" 0W-40 at the MS-12633 spec.

http://www.ramforum.com/f158/interesting_statement_5w-30_oil_being_used_6_4_instead_0w-40_a-75402/

People like to spout the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act that in a nutshell states the manufacturer must prove use of non recommend product caused a defect. In the real world, they can do whatever they want and push comes to shove, you will need to take them to court if they decide to just deny claim outright of warranty repair. Can you afford to fight that? That is why I say to deny them one point of denying a warranty claim is to use the recommended oil and specification called out.

In the end, play with whatever oil you want in terms of weight, specification or branding. Just be prepared to assume that risk for going outside the published recommendations.

I change my oil myself about 50% of the time and shop about 50% of the time.

****** thing is most shops when they have deals on there synthetic oil change which makes it cheaper to have them do it than I do it myself, they will only use whatever brand oil there coupon/ad says and if you change that brand (i.e. tell them Pennzoil Ultra only) they want to change the price on you making it at that point not beneficial for them to do it over myself.

Does Pennzoil own the rights to the MS 12633 spec only? Why arent other brands making this spec'ed oil as well so we have options? Or is there one or two others making it now? Anybody know of ones besides Pennzoil Ultra?

Most other brands don't have the specification because they haven't paid the $,$$$,$$$ to have it tested and certified for a very small market.

FCA owns the MS-12633 specification. Right now, the only oil that are certified to meet it are Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, MOPAR (re-bottled Pennzoil) and Amsoil 0W-40. Both are high dollar oils bu the Pennzoil can be pushed down into the $4 - $6 ranger per quart sometime with sales and rebates when the starts align. Otherwise it is a $9+ per quart oil. I think the higher cost and limited availability in brick and mortar stores is what gives most angst about it.
