Well, yesterday my truck had to make the walk (tow) of shame back to the dealership.

I was backing into my driveway when I heard a pop and the truck stopped moving. I got out to find that he tie rod end had snapped, and my steering arm was dragging the ground. Good news is that there is a recall for this problem, so the dealership should be covering it under warranty. Keeping my fingers crossed that they don't try to blame the lift even though it is a known defective part even on the stock height trucks.

It was actually in the middle of my street. I had the entire road blocked for an hour and a half waiting on the driver. I'm just glad it happened so close to home instead of on the highway somewhere. It could have been a lot worse had this happened while I was at speed.

Yea, better in your driveway than going down the highway.

Like you said, better at slow speed than highway. Glad you're safe, and we know you're level headed so you should be able to ensure the stealership fixes'er up under warranty.

I don't understand how they allow recalls like this to not be forced upon the customer (don't take that the wrong way) but a f*cking TIE ROD END?!

That can EASILY turn a truck into a uncontrollable death box. WTF?!

They sure as hell better fix it!

The guy I'm working with at the dealer is acting like it wont be a problem. I'm going to butter them up by letting them change the oil, tranny fluid, and the front/rear diff fluids while they have it. These things needed to be done anyways, so maybe that will help my chances of them taking care of the tie rod. I never got a notice in the mail about the recall, but I am also the 2nd owner of the truck. I wonder if that is why I didn't receive the notice?

Wtf? Glad to hear that you're okay... What's the deal with all of these steering problems? I've read that the f150s had a lot issues with a popping in the steering shaft that ford refused to fix.

My guess is you will be good to go on this and get a nice fresh alignment out of the deal too.

Lucky this was a slow speed fail for sure.

You can see how durable and well designed these "sealed" steering and suspension components are. If the newer trucks actually had joints that you could grease I bet these types of failures wouldn't be so frequent.

Let us know how you make out getting it covered under warranty.

They couldnt find a smaller rollback to tow you? That driver had to be hating the drive there.
