66RFE and 68RFE are the same case so all the pans will fit, however you have an exhaust cross over pipe which will cause you some clearance issues.

Wow! That was frustrating to me to watch you try to get that wrench on the fitting to tighten it! I was thinking "I have a crow's foot flarenut wrench in my Jeep you can borrow". I can only imagine how frustrating it was to you!

68RFE Transmission Cooler Thermostatic Bypass Upgrade

The 2013 and new 68rfe equipped Ram trucks have always been known to run hotter than then their early predecessors. There also have been numerous melted down transmissions due to the bypass valve sticking in the cold closed position. Lastly, the thermal bypass has a large restriction in it which reduces cooler flow by 87%, yes you read that right, 87%! No other bypass offers full unrestricted flow like the RevMax version does!

The completely re-engineered, Billet 6061 Aluminum RevMax Cooler Thermostatic Bypass Upgrade module, completely fixes all these complaints. Utilizing our ZeroStat Technology, We completely removed the orifice restriction for full cooler flow all the time. This equates to lower operating temperatures and longer transmission life.

Our billet Cooler Thermostatic Bypass Upgrade completely eliminates the thermal bypass valve and this elimination gives you three major advantages.

1. 87% increase in cooler flow due to the elimination of the orifice bottleneck located in the factory part.
2. There is no longer a thermal controlled bypass valve which can fail and cause lack of cooler flow and complete transmission destruction.
3. Instead of closing off cooler flow when the transmission is cold and making your transmission generate unneeded heat that is hard to shed later; our bypass allows your cooler to immediately begin cooling your transmission and not waiting for it to get hot, just to try to cool it later.
4. You cannot properly flush your cooler lines without the aid of a hot flush machine that can get hot enough to open the bypass valve up. With our bypass upgrade you can use room temperature fluid to clean out your cooler at anytime you wish without any special tools!
5. Integral aluminum cooling fins aid in passive cooling of the block and fluid.

The RevMax 68RFE Transmission Cooler Thermostatic Bypass Upgrade is a direct bolt in replacement. No lines are cut, nothing is altered. Simply disconnect your old lines and install them into our new bypass.

Yeah LoL, I ended up with metric and SAE crows feet about 20 mins after I posted that video.

I’m used to working on things like that, the government pays engineers to design **** where it’s impossible to take it out, but when it breaks the maintenance guys have to find a way.

Use the largest crescent wrench,16" or 20" to hold the body solidly while loosening and tightening the fittings. I didn't have crows feet wrenches, had no problems.

thank you guys. I think i'm going to do it. I'm just a little worried about the transmission. when i coast to a stop, the truck will jerk as it downshifts (seems like 3rd to 2nd), doesn't do it all the time, i feel it especially in stop and go traffic. if i do aggressive braking, won't do it. one day i won't feel it, next day i'll feel it. very very hard to duplicate. when i try to get it to do it, it won't, when i'm not thinking about it, it'll do it.

@jlilnc14 and @zeddy if this solves your issue please update this thread about it. It would be very good indo to know if these valves are creating issues other then transmision fluid temp and issues with clogging. If it is actually restricting fluid so much it is messing up shifting patterns, we need to know. thanks

Do I have to add transmission fluid? I see very little comes out.

Probably not but check it, nice thing about the rfe you can check it. Check it warm with engine running, I think even in nuetral.

I dont have a lift, drove it up on 6x8 wood ramps I made. I let it drain down to a slow drip, cleaned up lost about .5 qt. Didn't want to get slippery floor, slip and fall screw up my newish hip. Hate oil in my hair, easier to relax while working clean. Put fresh .5 qt back in.

Definitely do it. Some people think cooler transmissions are bad but everything I’ve read suggests that cooler transmissions last longer than ones that run hot all the time.

Someone is an idiot...heat is the biggest enemy of auto trannies.

IMO if you are worried just put a grill cover on. The thermal bypass is a weak link that could fail and kill your tans.

We get negative teens every winter and my trans does perfectly fine with it.

As suggested before throwing it in reverse and taking off it is a good idea (especially in extreme cold) to hold the break and let the trans sit in neutral/drive/reverse for a few seconds to get the fluid moving. In “park” the RFE stops pumping fluid.

Well that makes sense now. Few weeks ago when I was pulling our 13,700 pound trailer the tranny got it's hottest while stopped at lights. Still wasn't bad (174-176). It stayed at 168-174 pulling mountains on the WV Turnpike with outside temps of 88 degrees.
I have never noticed it acting funny in the cold winters. I drive 10 miles into work with some stop & go but mostly interstate. On those cold days it barely gets to 100 degrees before I get to work. Since I am occasionally pulling heavy, I will likely go with this bypass. Cooler temps = longer tranny life.
