Timing chain slop

2011 1500 5.7 hemi has a Code P0016. The timing chain seems very loose/sloppy in my estimation but how much is too much and would that cause the code?

Search the forum, cam phaser I believe is more common, or even just the sensor.

Curious , oil type weight, maintenance intervals? Mileage?

I bought this engine rebuilt and it has always shown this code. I took the front end apart and found the timing was quite a ways off so I reset it and still have the code appearing. New cam phaser at the same time but no one had a new chain. Oil is 5w-20 synthetic. I am thinking that the timing chain was not replaced when or if the engine was rebuilt. I have put about 10-12000 km on it since installing the engine.

I see oil control solonoids where the screens come apart can give this code, but its usually accompanied by another code. So you may be on the right track, it says this code will be set when a predetermined amount of degrees of timing is off. Doesn't say how many.

Check the chain tensioner and guides, timing chain rattle or slop would be caused by one of those 2 things.

New timing chain, sprockets and tensioners fixed the issue. All is well now. Thanks for the help everyone.
