Well I made it to ketchikan. And the steepness of the hills and no shortage of (road not maintained in the winter signs) got me thinking. And chains are c heaper than a set of studded tires. So. Who uses them. Should I get the cable or chain ones. And will they completly destroy my new discoverer at3s. Btw. Tires are awsome off road up here. I like them a lot better than my zeons..............so yeah. Thoughts on chains?

Might be better to have them as Back-up if your talking steep hills, for sure as they do work well when your bogged down.

It depends on when and where you will be driving.

Regardless good to have for backup.

The cable chains are designed for radial tires and good up to certain highway speeds.

My warning would be if on Ice or Mud the cable ones suck if you get side ways on a hill, they are like having ice skate blades on you truck and you slide sideways down the hill, not fun!!

The chain ones usually have X's welded on the cross bars for extra traction, great in mud and snow but limited to slower speeds.

I had a set of chain ones come apart once on a car and before I could get stopped they ripped up a quarter panel on the car.

Regards
Don
