I'm running a set of 37x12.5x16.5 military tires but my local firestone manager is a Marine, and he worked on humvees his entire tour and said that these tires are not speed rated up to 45mph on asphalt but I want to know more about the tires. Like can I still use them on my truck as a day to day tire and if so how often do they need to be replaced in order to maintain safety?

Any help will be much appreciated guys!

i cant say yes or no unless you have a tire name and info to look up.

my question why would you want to run them. You have a 1500 thats overkill by miles. If you want heavier duty go to LT tires

my question why would you want to run them.

They are available for near nothing, as they are sold at government surplus as they rotate to new stock.

They are most likely the 37" Goodyear Radial HMMWV MT and are OEM tires for the H1 hummer. I wouldn't sweat the Speed Rating. Just keep an eye on them for sidewall cracks or blisters. But they are damn near bullet proof and designed to handle a lot of abuse and weight. Speed will not kill them. You probably will not find a DOT marking on them that would list a weight or speed rating as they really were not intended for "civilian public consumption".

The early ones always seem to wear funny and will likely howl and vibrate a bit, but still are a good mud tire for dirt cheap on a play truck.

The 45 mph limit probably was applicable on a fully loaded, up-armored rig. On your truck, they won't even know it is there.

If you use them, just know you are stepping out of the 'norm' and into the world of a specialty tire. Like big lifts, and other mods, this will make your rig handle and react much differently. This is not the type of thing you make warranty claims for, expect OEM type performance, or your local guy at the tire store to understand or endorse in any way, shape or form.

Quoted from elsewhere on the web;

"The 36" Eagle II bias ply are fine, but personally they're pretty old tires, and you'd need the old obsolete 8 bolt rims to run them [and you're limited to low PSI for those].

The military is upgrading from 16 bolt wheels to a heavier duty 24 bolt design, along with 16.5" MTR's and BFG Baja's for the HMMWV fleet.

That means 10's of thousands of MT's and 16 and 8 bolt wheels will be hitting the surplus market. I've seen guys winning government auctions with entire tractor trailer loads of them for pennies on the dollar".

I already have a these tires but I have a 5 bolt weld rim.
I love the tires, I just wanted to make sure they were safe!
So thank you very much!

Not necessarily needed. But recommended. D44 axles can handle some big tires, but that's as long as it's a mall crawler. If you wheel the thing. Then yes, find some axles from a 3/4ton or 1 ton truck.
