To lift or drop... That is the question.

Hey guys, I've got a 2013 ram 1500 QC that I purchased about a month ago. I was wanting to figure out what would ultimately cost more money, lifting my truck or dropping it. I know multiple options come in to play for both situations. I just want to hear opinions from the forum

Ill level with you....
My truck has 7'' of lift. My tahoe has roughly 5 (3'' body and lift keys/spacers). Ive had a lifted 97 Ram too.
Ive had a 01 Ram lowered. A 2011 Mustang lowered. A 92 Blazer lowered. And an SN95 GT Lowered (LOVED THAT CAR).

I personally did not like ANY of the lowered vehicles I have owned for a Daily Driver. The 2011 Mustang was by far THE WORST car Ive ever driven lowered (1.75 front, 2.0 rear). But it was THE BEST car ive driven prior to lowering it. Get my point? Lowering it drastically changed the ride quality. More so than any lifted vehicle Ive owned or driven or ridden in. Scraped everywhere I went. Couldnt take it down certain roads, tires rubbed/wore unevenly (After alignment). Pretty much the same thing with the others too, exept the blazer but thats because I was 19 years old and didnt give a s@#t ya know. Price wise... Lowering was a ton cheaper. A few of those vehicles had springs cut and other DIY type suspension mods. The 2011 and the ram were both shop done and cost a lot more, but not nearly the cost of a lift. Body lifts are relatively cheap, and you can save a ton by DIY. My tahoe looks great with the Body Lift. Couldnt be happier. My Dodge is effing awesome fun to drive. I personally, regardless of cost comparison, will NEVER own another lowered vehicle. Thats just my .02 though.

If you don't know, keep it stock. I typically do not like lowered trucks -- unless they have the full treatment/look. Lifted 2wds are kind of silly. If I had to ask myself this question, I'd keep it stock (until the OE springs/shocks wear out).

I know I'm in the minority here, but I'm all for dropping a daily driver. I have my work truck lifted 4" on 33s because I work out in the Northern Alberta oil patch and it's an emergency response vehicle, kinda has to go everywhere. That said, my DD is an '09 4wd with a 4/6 kit on it and previously it was an '07 4wd with a 2/4. I've found that as long as you're able to run a minimum of a 40 series tire you don't lose a lot of ride quality, a lot of people forget that suspension systems are designed to take the damping characteristics of the shocks, springs, AND tires into account.

I will also say when I was younger I had a lowered S10. Was cool as **** lookin', but a pain sometimes. Not fun in snow and got stuck in a couple driveways teetering on the frame, lol. :laughing1: She was low though.

OP, where do you live ?

Personally if you bought a truck, you want the utility of a truck. I would leave it stock height, or lift it up. just think a " sport truck " will never handle like a sports car, so take that into consideration.

I live in Texas. I don't ever tow or haul anything.

Yeah my blazer eventually ran around with no mufflers. Got tired of replacing them after I went over railroad tracks, or hit a deep enough pot hole. I think it was the lowered ram I had that I somehow managed to crack and oil pan. The mustangs front valance needed to be replaced and who knows what else on the underside of the car by the time it went bye bye.
