TomTom refusing to load, dealer unable to fix

$175 to the dealer and no fix.
I spent around 10 months with my nav refusing to load TomTom. It started off rare and progressively got worse. At times, it would load and then crash out and pop up with error screens. Restarting the stereo would only bring it back to loading.
After growing frustration, especially on road trips, I began scouring the forums (RamRebel.org, RamRebelforums.com, ramforum.com, 5thgenrams) for help. I found one thread that had the stelliants navshop to download and update the latest map update. I followed the instructions and loaded the maps. Nav worked for about one drive. This finally got me to ask the dealer at my last oil change.

I ended up having to come back a different day even though they told me it would be a 10 minute fix to plug it in. I came back a couple weeks later, planning to work from the dealership. Hours later, they come and offer me a loaner and need to keep the truck over night. They were having trouble downloading the update and the truck would not accept their software update.
I get the call the next day to come in and get the truck. $175 later, their recommendation is to get a new stereo unit. Telling me the radio won't accept software and will not take updates.

During the time the dealership had my truck, I found a TRX forum that spoke of this issue. I mentioned it to the service department and received a thats nice type reply.
My next free night, I followed the advice in the thread. I deleted all driver profiles and deleted all connected devices.
(TomTom rebooting multiple times when driving)

Nav instantly started working perfectly. The next morning, I get in the truck and software installed over night. presets are all gone, settings are factory reset.

It has been two months and no issues, except paying $175 to be told they can't work on their own products, likely due to yet another Stelliants / Chrystler / FCA / Ram software issue.

Only issue now is the horn doesn't honk for double pushing the lock button (something I've pointed out to more than one tech more than once). One tech took the time to show me it in the settings. I had to demon straight to him each setting and he looked at me like I was an alien.Bill_edited.jpgtomtom.jpg

You didn't mention your truck details. And your truck info under your avatar says you have a 4th gen lol. Assuming the factory warranty has expired here since you declined on a replacement and they charged you for the visit. It's a tough spot to be in, but I'm not surprised they aren't able to work on the radio. Repairing the radio is not something they're trained for. There's probably even a sticker on there somewhere that says "no user serviceable parts inside". I miss the days when it was simple to just swap out a factory head unit for an aftermarket one.
