The new converter is more efficient and lowers your overall drivetrain loss, so as long as you don't try to be Ricky Bobby at every stoplight, you should see a slight increase in mileage.

this might be a stupid question keep in mind all my experience is with diesels so I know with a diesel you don't dare change the tc and vb without doing a full set of bigger better badder clutch packs and steels it's guaranteed you will destroy the stock clutch packs is this not the case with these trucks can you get away with just a tc and vb swap?

With these transmissions it is not necessary to change clutches for a simple converter swap. Also, the valvebody was changed in 2011-up trucks, so those are not available at this time. Sharadon uses used cores for their modified stage 2 and stage 3 VB's for the 03-10 guys, but we have not been able to find any used cores for the 11-up.

If you decide to do it yourself you should do a detailed DIY, I might try this out but don't want to pay to have done. Also hate the idea of my truck sitting in the shop for who knows how long.

I think there is a DIY somewhere on this board.

I'll say not having a lift or even some one there to hand you tools while you're under the truck sucks, but it is still very do able. Just might add a couple hours to the whole task though.

I will look for it again, watched some you tube video but that was with the trans already out and looked simple just sliding it on but I have never pulled a trans out so just looking for a start.

Pulling the transmission is easy, especially with a tranny jack. It can be done with a floor jack, but I highly recommend having some help to keep it balanced. Just make sure you have a handful of longer extensions for the top bolts, and you will be fine. Also, remember to unplug all the electrical connectors before dropping the transmission.

Extensions will be the life saver here. I used to use a 3ft one and a impact on lightest setting I could set it to because those bolts aren't big and aren't in super tight. 2wd trucks I know guys that can have those out in maybe 30 mins. Also if you have a 4wd truck get a good set of racheting wrenches if the tcase is offset to one side like older trucks all youll be able to get in there is a hand wrench and small 1/4 turns take forever when you have to keep repositioning the wrench.

The base has a few lifts and some mechanics that can lend a hand but I may have to supply the extensions. They charge $7 an hour to use their equipment so I may be G2G. Can't beat a $49 install.

Yeah, I'd say you are set. $7/hr is dirt cheap to use someone else's tools.

Just got off the phone with a highly recommended (local) shop. The guy claims that my mpgs will go down from 14 mpg city to as low as 10 mpgs. Thats a no go for me. Install price is $4-$425

man the only way i see that happening is if you go with like a 3600 or higher stall and probably not even with those if you get a 2800 it wont drop that much im sure....i have the stock rt 2600 one and its worse then an aftermarket one and i have headers intake and 4.10 gears with 22s and i dont even get 10mpg

Maybe hes not sure what my stock stall is. Looks like I may just get the Sonnax line pressure kit for now. Maybe even a Moe's 87mm tb and CAI to make up the difference

the reason i dont see you loosing mpg is because of how much more efficient an aftermarket converter is compared to the stock ones.

The aftermarket converter will only help your MPG. I have the edge 2800 stall and I have 24" rims and my MPG has gone up 2 mpg and I hot rod all the time for no reason. It is the only other mod that sows noticeable gains along with gears.
