Lately I have been debating on saving up for a tc. I originally wanted to do a a gear swap. But after realizing my Ram has 3.92's, I dont see the bang for the buck to go to 4:10's. And I think 4:56s will burn too much gas.

My Ram is a DD and I tow an enclosed 5x10 detailing trailer at least three times a week. But on the weekends I like to open her up a little for some fun. Not looking to race or anything though.

What is a good tc for me that will give good performance, good for towing ability, and not killing the mpg's.

What should I look at spending for parts and labor?

And lets say I were to get one from one of our vendors. What else would I need for the install? I wil be changing the trans fluid and filter at the same time as well. Im approaching 40k

Edge or Circle D, something in the 2600-2800 area.

I just ordered mine today. i went with a 2600 and got it from Matt at Moe's performance. I tow my Jeep and use my 2500 for a DD, just PM him and he will set you up with what you need, built for your truck.

If one had a lift, the tranny on these look fairly simple to pull and swap converters.

I would do a 2800 edge from Moes performance. Around the Dallas area a vb/tc install is around $400-$500

sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3

I've done it a couple of times, last time I did it by myself. It's not hard, just labor intensive. Just let me know when you wanna do it and I can lend a hand.

For how you use your truck, I would also go with the 2800 stall Edge converter. This stall speed is going to make the truck a lot of fun off the line while still having great street manners both unloaded and with the trailer in tow. If you had a heavier trailer, I would say go with the 2600, but you will be fine at 2800. Converter is only $525 shipped, and the labor rates vary from $250-$400. If anyone quotes you more than $400 for a converter install, then just walk away.

They also come ready to install. Only thing you need is some extra fluid, but since you are already going to change the fluid/filters, you will be good to go. If you plan to install this yourself, make sure you put a quart of fluid in the converter BEFORE installing it. The internals are pre-greased, but it is necessary to fill the converter first prior to installing it in the truck.

If you decide to do it yourself you should do a detailed DIY, I might try this out but don't want to pay to have done. Also hate the idea of my truck sitting in the shop for who knows how long.
