2016 5.7 1500 3.22 axle. Just bought this truck but the boat is well snowed in. Boat and trailer are 3,700 lbs, no brakes, tongue weight about 380lbs. Question: will this truck struggle at all towing this boat? Thanks and happy new year!

It will be fine Ive towed way more then that in my 2014 lol. However I do have airbags in the rear springs to help the sag and it keeps things more stable are you planning on towing it far?

Thanks for the reply, truthfully I only tow twice a year to the campground and back 80 miles each way. During the entire camping season the boat stays on my camp site and it is towed back and forth from the ramp which is only 8 miles each way. Happy New Year!

Froggy…. TOWing…. is more than just PULLing. It’s also STOPPING.
Virtually ANYTHING…even a Nissan Frontier can tow that thing.

But the Real Important part is getting it to stay under-control STOPPING.

Your tongue weight looks good, also. You shouldn’t have a problem with that.

You won't have any issues towing that. Boats are rear heavy so be sure to have your hitch height correct. 6-10% is good tongue weight for boats but be sure the front of the trailer is slightly lower than the rear so might need a drop hitch to get that.

That weight is well within even midside truck territory. No problem whatsoever.

I had a very similar setup, drove it for years with no problems.

It was interesting to me that when I registered this truck here in MT, I had to declare an expected towing weight on the spot. Didn't have to do that on my previous, ancient truck, so had no idea. No plans to tow, so I said 4,000. If I do ever tow, and get caught towing more, I can be ticketed and fined! I'd guess the whole purpose of the exercise.

More than likely, just a revenue raising scheme.

Trying to get all they can from anywhere.

That extra weight on the roads when you are towing is shortening the life of the pavement.

Roads are excellent in this state, paid from gas taxes. Premium is a little under $3.50. Can't complain, they seem to spend wisely & well.

Guess I am under traveled. Never heard of having to declare what alleged weight U may tow, sounds like a $$$$$ scheme to me.
Of course, all states different, and how things are registered and taxed.

Big difference from PA. We have the highest gas tax in the country and it is supposed to be used for road repairs but our roads suck too. It came out several years ago after the Fern Hollow bridge collapse that something like $4.2B was missing from the fund.

Sounds like our Sanibel Causeway, 3 bridges that link Sanibel and Captiva Islands to the mainland. Built in the late 1960's, they collected a $3 toll on every car for many years.

Then, when we were blessed with Hurricane Irma in 2017, the money was magically not the amount that should have been in the account.

Then, in 2022 Hurrican Ian heavily damaged the Causeway. The major upgrades are complete, and it costs $6 now if you have a transponder, $9 if you don't ($3 of the $9 is an 'administration fee' so they can send you a bill for 'toll-by-plate').

I've been there 3 times in the last 3 years (all more that 2 years ago), and have no desire to go there for the beach. I'd rather drive a little farther and go somewhere else.

Well, one of the highest (technically you're 4th) 58.7 for you vs our 70.92 in Kommiefornia. Our roads are awful. They told us the same lie, that it was going to road repair, but I would like to see a good audit of the system. I think Nevada DOT takes joy in making sure that you can tell when you cross the state line, just by the sudden smoothness of the roads!

Not certain of the relevance…. But Looeasyana can boast some of the most-productive petroleum and refining facilities in the U.S. …. along with perahps the Worst public roads and highways. (Even the Interstates rank among the worst-maintained.)

We all got our terror stories on roads. I took a trip years ago and ended up on the Kentucky Blue Ridge Parkway. Wish someone would have told me, I would have put all my dirty laundry in a washtub in the bed of my truck. WOULD have been the best washed clothes in the country.

Heck, in TX, U get that transition when you cross a County Line, weird....... than they get out there and resurface the road by an oil base with tar/gravel rock that never ever sets right, rolled in right., than you got loose roadway gravel all over and you end up possibly losing a windshield. Try riding a Motorcycle on a road "newly" resurfaced. I have had to duck at times, makes me drive 50 miles outta my way to go somewhere, just saying.
