Hi Folks - Newby here from the left coast of Canada. I have a '17 Ram 1500 which has a rated tow capacity of 9030lbs and a combined max vehicle weight of 14,400. The trailer I want to tow weighs 7800lbs empty. However, the GVWR for the trailer (loaded) is 10.000. I'm wondering if I tow this trailer empty and have a problem with the power train, will I have voided my warranty because of the GVWR rating, even though the trailer (unloaded) is within the towing limit?
Sorry if this is convoluted. I'm hoping a helpful person with some knowledge of the legalities may be able to help me out.

I think any potential warranty problems are the least of your worries. It's very unlikely the dealer would ever know what you were towing. That being said you will very likely be over payload and possibly other ratings of the truck. The tow capacity of 9K is only a small part of the story.

Dealer wouldn't know what you were towing, however, you need less trailer or a 2500.

You are either within the ratings or not. Exceeding either tow or GVWR is still using the vehicle past the recommended limits Presenting a vehicle for possible warranty repair and having exceeded the ratings that may have caused damage, is a ethical issue.
