ike many of you I have never had TPS in my tires. I have a 2019 1500 Bighorn. I jusy had my 3rd set of tires put on. 145,000 miles. Now a month or so later the TPS sensors are going wonky. First it was one that would suddenly just go blank and the warning would appear. A few miles sown the road and it would reappear. Now 3 are acting up. Is this a dealer repair or a general tire shop? Is it even necessary? I grew up using a tire pressure gauge, so I can check the pressure wirhout HAL's help. Any idea of the cost ro fix this? Thanks dor your help.

I don't know if you've read the other TPS threads, but within the past week I had new tires put on at Discount/America's tire, and I had their generic Alligator sensors put in for $63 each. Mine is a 2018 and the OEM were still working, but I figured it was time. So far they're working beautifully, and they warranty them for 6 years or 72,000 miles.

I think, but I'm not sure, that the $63 would include if you bring it in and they have to take off your tire to install them, or maybe they'd just break the bead and sneak them in through the side? It's worth a call.

Go mopar, don't buy generic sensors, for your 2019 the sensors are far cheaper than you know. Oem sensors last 8 to 10 years. My 2014 is on its original sensors.

Send your vin to Benny @AllMoparParts.com a forum vendor he'll help you out. Sell them to you at a reasonable price and you can forget about it.

The sensors must have a power source, which is typically a small battery, and they can go bad. You should replace all four of them and buy a TPS sensor programming tool on Amazon if you want to do it yourself self

I have a 2019, Gen 5 ram, and just bought sensors with numbers matching the original part number. I watched a video, then broke down the tire and replaced the battery portion of the sensor. Put the tire back on after airing it back up, then drove about 10 miles and the sensor started reading again. The DT truck, gen 5, has self learning sensors! They do not get programmed. Here is the part I bought. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F8PVRF6R?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

Hope this helps.

My 2014 self learned. With Mopar sensors.
The aftermarket sensors self-learn as well, they just have to be programmed to know what vehicle they're in. Nothing against getting OEM at all, just saying it seems to be a good option, if you're getting tires changed anyway.

I used AlfaOBD to dussable the system on my truck after the sensors started failing. It was nice to have, but I can live without it.
My sensors have alerted me twice to having nails in my tire, when I had no idea. Slow leaks in both cases, but especially one time I was about to take a long trip. I was able to get the leak plugged quickly before I left. I don't know how many people go around and check your tire pressure manually every time you drive, I sure don't.

Any decent tire shop will be able to change the sensors and recalibrate if needed. Just call a few and ask what they charge for your vehicle.

Walmart will replace all four sensors for just over $110.

I was just curious, so I stopped by Mavis Tire here in Powdersville, SC. He said he would change all 4 out for $400.00...... I walked out!!!!! I am going to invest in one of those AlphaOBDs and fix this myself. Plus, I am guessing that the AlphaOBD will work on my wife's van 2016 Town and Country.

My OEM sensors quit at seven years old and 80,000 miles. I went to my local Discount Tire Store that replaced them with theirs that has a six year warranty. The price was 63.00 per wheel which I think is not bad because there is a fair amount of labor to remove each wheel from the truck ,break down the tire remove and install the new sensors and reinstall the tire and wheel on the truck.

I just had my 19 Bighorn at the dealer middle of last week to change out the passenger side front which stopped communicating. Less than two months ago had to replace the driver side front for same issue. Considered replacing both rear while there but decided to just do the front one.

Being retired and the dealer only being about a half hour away it's not a big deal if I end up having to go back. Funny thing is that my 14, that I just sold two weeks ago, never had one crap out.

I just had all four of mine replaced with factory OEM-type 68293199AA @ $41.35 a piece.

Yup! the only real solution, unless you like wasting money on useless features. If you cant feel a low tire you should be operating a truck... lol...

My 2012 Ram 1500 OEM MOPAR TPMS went bad after only 3 years. Discount Tire replaced all 4 of them for $350…and they worked fine for 5 years when the truck was totalled in a wreck.

So…when I bought new tires for my wife’s Toyota Sienna … Discount quoted $1100 while WalMart quote $600 for the exact same model of Goodyears…So, I abandoned my 20-year loyalty to DT and let WM have the job.

The following week one of her TPMS went bad….. and knowing what DT charges…I called WalMart …to find they only charge $10 each to completely REPLACE them with new. I figured this was either a mis-quote…or perhaps was Labor Only…. but …. NO.
They replaced ALL 4 for $40 plus sales tax. They work perfectly. Took them about 30 mins to complete the job.

Moral: Get WM to quote tires…and if you buy from them…. get new TPMS while they’re doing the tires. :p
