I've done quite a bit of research and can't really seem to find what I'm looking for entirely. I have a 2016 3500 with the 8.4 screen and no CHMSL camera. I have a 35 foot living quarters horse trailer that is very large so it's nearly impossible to see behind. I do not have any desire to have a different screen in the cab when I know there is an input for another camera. I have an in bed 7 way connector so my thought is I could put a camera on the back of the trailer, run the video cable up to the trailer 7 way and put a connector in the bed to for the video cable and then up to the radio. Having said that, 1 has anyone done that, 2 any harness required, 3 bad idea or suggestions?

What you are trying to do can work for certain 8.4 radios. There is a certain year (and up) that allows you to enable the on screen toggle for the cargo camera. I believe that year is 2016 but I could be mistaken. You would then connect your input to the cargo camera connection.

Forum member @Mpgrimm2 is a vendor here who makes wiring harnesses. He might be able to get you everything you need, but I don't want to speak for him as what you are asking is both simple and custom.

If your radio supports it, you can use that input for multiple things if you'd like...here's what I did (which is what you are trying to do and then some)...

Yep. 2016 8.4 radio & up support the 2nd camera input. You will need to activate it with AlfaOBD and add the extra RCA Pigtail to the radio connector. (I can get you the RCA Pigtail input).

You won't be able to use that 7pin trailer connector for anything other than power and ground for the camera if you don't go all the way to the 12v outlet under the radio. All the other pins are active/duplicate the 4 pin connector.

@skuppy069 just did something like this and can probably recommend a trailer camera and watertight bulkhead connector setup for you to use.

I definitely would like to buy a pigtail.

I probably could’ve been more clear, I am not using the 7 way, I just want the video lines to follow the same path and then have a connector next to it for the camera. I’ll use the actual 7 way box on the trailer to power the camera when the trailer is plugged in.

Thank you for the reply, I didn’t think I was too far off. Im good on bulkhead connectors, I have a ton I use for my other projects but would love some camera recommendations, there are a ton out there and I want a quality one that’s for sure. Thanks again!
