have a 2013 Ram 1500 4 X 4 with the 6 speed 65RFE Transmission with a console shift and "T" shifter handle...what would be required to change the transmission to one of the newer 8 speed transmissions?

Pretty much an entire donor truck, or most of one, and a lot of labor. It is not impossible, but typically far less expensive to trade your truck in for an 8-speed model. With all the computers and everything involved, its a lot harder to do that sort of thing anymore.

Don't take me wrong, I am not telling you to go trade your truck in like a jerk. I am simply stating that it would be cheaper. If I were you, I'd enjoy your current truck until its time to trade her in, and then look for the 8-speed model at that time.

Guy in Edmonton put a 6.4 and 8 speed into a 2012 truck.He bought a totalled truck to do the swap,as he ended up having to swap the dash assembly and pretty well all the wiring /computors and sensors from the donor truck into the earlier truck.Whether you'd have to go that far to do the tranny swap by itself i'm not sure,but I think in the long run,it'd probably be easier to just trade it off on a truck with an 8 speed.

I would imagine a good portion of the wiring harness for the engine and transmission. The 8 speed TCM is built inside the transmission, the 6 speed is external.
